Hendricks Architecture

We hired John late last year to design a mountain house in eastern Washington for our large family. What John was able to design, within our size and budget constraints, is simply going to be an amazing home for us. John always treated us as if we were his only client, even though I knew otherwise. John and his team were always prompt and helpful in answering our many questions and considered our input throughout the design process. I would highly recommend John Hendricks and his team to anyone needing architectural design services. We can't wait to start construction on our home later this year!

I'm disabled, needing oxygen 24/7. This is provided via either an electric concentrator (noisy) or wheeled tanks I pull behind me. I contacted John Hendricks, describing my needs/wants: a house with a central "closet" w/electrical outlet to house the concentrator, soundproofed; a smaller footprint so the oxygen tubing would reach from end to end, including garage; many big windows for light; super-energy efficient; and wheelchair accessible for later years; this was to be my final residence. I couldn't be happier with what he created, exceeding and expanding upon my specs. Winters here can be gloomy, but I get sunlight throughout the house. Enormous shower that will fit a wheelchair. Easy access to/from the outside despite the unusual rural setting. He consulted with me during the design process, asking questions I didn't know that I had, and addressing all my concerns as a first-time design client. As an independent Interior Designer I have had the pleasure of working with John Hendricks for well over ten years. I very much enjoy and appreciate his style of architecture but more importantly I appreciate the respect he affords my skills and me. John allows me unrestricted access to our mutual clients and never constrains or restricts my design efforts. When called upon, John and his staff are quick to render assistance but otherwise stand aside and allow me total design freedom.

We have worked on many custom residential design projects in the past with Hendricks Architecture. They are great to work with. Their designs are well thought out and efficient. As a structural engineering firm, we greatly appreciate their layouts and concepts.

John Hendricks (and office staff) worked closely with us to design our new home. My husband works with several local architects and chose Hendricks Architecture for the quality of their work, as well as ease of working with them. His faith was well-placed. We had some ideas but no firm concept of how to bring them to life, and a limited budget. John made a site visit, then met with us several times, took all the time we needed, took our ideas into account, and dealt well with our unusual requirements (we had quite a few). Alterations were dealt with quickly before the plan was finalized. He worked closely with our builder, as our builder has worked with him often in the past. John's plan brought our dream to life, better than we thought it could, for the budget we could afford. This is not a big lakeside mansion, just a house of 2,000 square feet, but it fits us and our lifestyles perfectly, feels spacious, and is beautiful besides.

Our dream home started with 3 years of thumbing through various timber and log home magazines. We had a definite timber frame style of home we fell in love with. Once seeing the front cover of Timber Home Living Magazine we realized our next step to make our dream home a reality. John Hendricks was the architect and he was the feature in this special edition. We contacted John and knew from that first call, John was going to head up our dream team and orchestrate our dream Wisconsin lake home. John’s experience, knowledge and professionalism all came through in his initial fact finding process. We began working with John by making our wish list of specific and personal touches for our home. What John created for us was all this and even more. With our particular welcoming exterior look, along with a warm and functional open timber frame interior feel, John was able to deliver our look and feel…Colorado Elegance. John’s personal skills along with his modern technology delivered us confidence and extreme comfort working together, even though four states separated his firm and our location. John was able to conceive then create for us, architectural dream home magic…. which we now appropriately named “Heavens Window”. We would highly, highly, recommend John and his firm Hendricks Architecture. My wife and I retained John Hendricks to design our retirement home in North Idaho for us. This was a very challenging task as we presented John with a variety of design and budget constraints. John proved more then up to the job. He is an excellent listener and incorporated our desires and dreams into his creative concepts. The end result was a home that is ideally suited to our lifestyle and yet carries the unique qualities that John brought to the process. While a modest home in all regards, it never the less has been chosen as the featured residence in a local community magazine and two national publications. At least one of our friends who have visited our home has contacted John about designing a home for he and his wife, and another friend has retained John for a major remodel project. We found John to be very creative and knowledgeable yet equally personable. I have worked with 3 other architects prior to my experience with John and our experience with John was by far the best. John’s design abilities are surpassed only by his strength of character and integrity and I highly recommend John Hendricks for any residential or commercial design work.

We had Hendricks Architecture design our cabin in Sandpoint, Idaho. They worked with our contractor Selle Valley Construction to create the most amazing cabin! I had a vision of a modern, energy efficient cabin based on the historic, forestry cabins at Priest Lake in Northern Idaho. That is exactly what we got! It has a huge screened porch and a loft that can sleep all my future grandkids. Working with Hendricks was easy, they quickly got my vision, applied it to our lot and within a very short time we were ready to start construction. Hendricks Architecture and Selle Valley Construction worked well together to provide us our home away from home!

We hired John Hendricks to be our architect on a bit of an unusual project, building a tropical,coastal home in a foreign country! Upon meeting John we felt like we were finally on the right track. We were appreciative that he was interested & enthusiastic about our project and willing to research the style & conditions of this type of home.He was able to take our many ideas,stacks of books and magazine clippings & put them on paper for us in a way that fit our steep ocean front lot and a difficult access. We are very happy with the work John has done for us & have gone on to do other projects as well!

Working with John Hendricks on the design and construction of our new home has been wonderful. This is our third build but the first with an architect. We were a bit apprehensive because we had heard some architects want to build " their" home....not yours. That could not be further from the truth with John. He took the time to know us, our likes and dislikes and specifically what we wanted in our new home. He is very preceptive. John was able to bring forward with clarity ideas we had but were somewhat foggy to us. We knew better but John made us feel like we were his only client. He was always immediately available to us. He took much of the stress out of construction process. Our project included to complexities of waterfront engineering and regulatory issues. John and his staff guided us through these challenges seamlessly. It was great having his guidance and advocacy. We could not recommend Hendricks Architecture more strongly. He took our desires into his skill set and brought forward the home of our dreams! He is now a friend much more than just the architect we engaged for our project!

I had John Hendricks design my home and was very pleased with the level of professionalism he and his staff brought to the project. My husband and I had many ideas but we needed someone with the knowledge and understanding of the building process, materials and site planning to get our dream house on paper. One of our concerns when choosing an Architect was communication, we live in another state. We have never dealt with any company or firm that gave us this level of service. Our calls were always answered promptly and any concerns we had were addressed completely and there were no "surprise" fees. Our plans were completed on time and are beautiful! We look forward to updating our review as we move into the building phase of the project where I feel confident that John will continue to work with us. UPDATE: We have completed our home! We have actually been living here for awhile and it has far exceeded our expectations. The plans John drew up were exactly what we wanted and the building process went very well, was done on time and under budget. We had some unusual elements inside the house (a vintage stove, sink and reclaimed bar) and some challenges with the lot, everything was handled efficiently and we couldn't be happier with the results. The best part though is actually living in my dream house, I feel so blessed to have had such a great team to work with. John was always available for our questions and concerns and he helped to keep us informed with reports and pictures along the way.

We have worked with Hendricks Architecture on a number of projects and have always found them to be highly professional, creative and easy to work with. I'm very impressed with their ability to take a client's list of design wants and needs, often times expressed with only a few pictures and emails, and transform that information into a beautiful design with a functional layout. We've recommended a number of clients to Hendricks Architecture and regardless of the home size or budget, each client is given the same level of attention and care. Nationally recognized for luxurious lake and mountain cabins, for one of our clients they designed a small lake cabin, to be used as a family retreat, that will be certified by the National Association of Home Builders Green Building Standard. Lastly, as a contractor, we appreciate Hendricks Architecture for considering our input and expertise during the design phase. We have found that when such collaboration is allowed to take place a project is more likely to stay on schedule and within a client' budget.
