During the design phase, he listened to what we wanted (low maintenance and energy efficiency) and incorporated our vision into the design. After searching for our "forever home" with no success, we decided to transform our present house into that "forever home." Tilghman Herring was recommended by several friends. He successfully translated our desires into reality, and we could not be more pleased. Not only did he nail the architectural design, but he's fluent in all the many nuances involved in a major renovation and addition. Although the design is complete, he'll still be with us the entire way - from soup to nuts! Not only did we discover a great architect, we also discovered a new friend!

Our family retained Tilghman Herring to design an out of town investment property for us. He was pleasant to work with, and was willing to travel for design meetings. Tilghman was also knowledgeable about building in the Wilmington area and helped us find the perfect contractor for our project. We couldn’t be happier with the final outcome, it’s exactly what we wanted.

Tilghman and I worked together on a custom home in Landfall in 2017-18. He was always responsive, quick to offer suggestions and solutions, and had an unbelievable vision that really brought a beautifully designed home to life. We are thrilled with the home that Tilghman designed for our family. For two working parents, our time is very limited and our schedules somewhat unpredictable. Tilghman went above and beyond what is expected to accommodate our busy schedules. He made himself available and was always flexible, making the design phase less stressful for us. He was quite patient with us as we worked to create a home that meets our current needs but yet will serve us well in the future. Our home has a view of the golf course and Tilghman took great care to highlight that feature. We also desired a mix of a traditional and somewhat formal exterior with a more transitional interior and Tilghman was quite successful in that endeavor. Tilghman is well established in the Wilmington, NC area and therefore knows who the best local tradesmen are in our community. He has years of experience and it shows.

We interviewed several local architects and Tilghman hands down was the one we felt right at home with. Our project is a rather large one and a two-step process. Part one was the construction of a "pool house" and separate 3-car garage with a pool in the middle. Part two is a main living house that would connect the garage and "Pool House" with breezeways to create a courtyard in the middle surrounding the pool. Tilghman was extremely patient and very thorough with all of the planning and ideas that we threw at him. He was especially brilliant when it came to my "out of the box" thinking and curating it onto paper. Our process isn't a conventional one, therefore articulate planning went into our project. During the construction process Tilghman was available! He answered his phone and was reliable during the entire process from appliance selection to finalize trim detail with our builder. Only half of our project is complete and we can't wait to get started on the last half. Tilghman Herring is not only an exceptional architect but a wonderful person inside and out.

We have had the opportunity of working with Tilghman Herring of Hood Herring Architecture in the layout and design of cabinetry for almost two decades. It is evident Tilghman really enjoys the process of designing a home for his clients, listening to their thoughts on design and functionality, while being conscious of the build and budgeting aspect to make sure cost goals are met. He takes the extra step of accompanying his clients to our showrooms to help introduce and guide them through the process of selecting cabinetry for the homes he designs.
