Award Winning Modern Architecture And Design Firm Based In Metro NYC

Jason Shannon and Paola Yañez are a husband and wife who met while studying architecture at Carnegie Mellon University. We started J_spy 12 years ago and have been featured in Dwell Magazine, Dazeen Magazine, and Frame Magazine to name a few. We currently have projects in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and California, so our area of service is pretty much anywhere in the USA. If we were to describe our work in one sentence, it would be that we strive to make architecture that is better in real life than in a photograph. Often we feel architecture can be too focused on a visual aesthetic which results in great photos, but the reality of experiencing the space is disappointing. Our work focuses on light, materiality, volume, and how you move through space, to make our projects worth experiencing. We have recently incorporated virtual reality into our design and presentation process. It isn't always easy for clients to understand what the proposed space will look and feel like, but using a digital 3d model and a virtual reality headset, our clients will get a clearer picture of their new home.

It was a pleasure working with J Spy on the gut renovation of my family's Park Slope brownstone. Paola and Jason successfully and expediently helped us navigate the DOB and Landmarks commission. Paola was always well prepared, reliant, professional, organized, and creatively always brought great ideas that were also realistic. J Spy had great communication and collaborated well with the contractor and other team members. Paola proactively worked to ensure my parent's new space was the best it could be. Paola is a kind person and a pleasure to work with.

Had the pleasure of working with Jason and Paola of J_spy for our MochiDough and BoberTea project and it was a great experience. They are great listeners to what the needs of the clients are, and able to create both architectural and design elements that matched with my needs while inputting suggestions that augmented my original concept. They are detail oriented, knowledgeable, high-tech (love the VR walkthrough of the space!) considerate and go above and beyond. I would recommend them to any business, or personal projects that require architecture and design.
