We hired Knight Architects for an extension and full-home renovation. Ours is a small, older cottage that was gut renovated. Cathy and Geoff were a pleasure to work with throughout, and guided us through all stages of the process, from the initial planning stages, permitting, contractor bidding, and ultimately project completion. They are extremely creative and detail-oriented, and somehow managed to address all our wishes even working under numerous constraints posed by the older property. We could not be happier with the final result and would not hesitate to recommend them.

We spent as much time selecting an architect as we did with the actual project. We felt that this single decision was as important as all the others combined. We needed someone who could not only listen but guide, have design discipline but be open to idiosyncrasies, professional but fun. We found all that with Knight Architects, and the rest was easy. Our project was a residential expansion and renovation. Besides the new space, almost every other surface in the house was touched, whether enhanced, moved or removed, and all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were improved upon. Entirely new construction would have been easier, but not what we wanted. Not only did they envision and design spaces that were all “us”, but throughout the entire construction process, Knight Architects was there as a knowledgeable resource and steady hand. We couldn’t be happier and more enthusiastically endorse Cathy Knight and her brilliant team.

Knight Architects worked with me on a renovation/addition of my craftsman house. The house had some pre-existing conditions that were a challenge but Cathy came up with a plan that I love and maintains the integrity of the existing house. When it came time to have builders bid on the design, KA set up a meeting with 3 different builders and assisted me with interviewing. The whole process went very smoothly. Working with Cathy has been great!

Cathy, Geoff and her entire team helped make our dream home even better than we could have imagined. Our project involved an addition and major renovations. Cathy took the time to get to know us so that she understood the form and function that best suited our wishes. She brought amazing ideas, but just as importantly she listened to us and along the way was not afraid to work with our suggestions. Architecture done well must be a collaborative event, and Cathy is not only a brilliant architect but also a caring person. We felt as if we were her only client. To start, I have been working with different architects on multiple projects for many years and Cathy Knight and her team at Knight Architects are some of the kindest, hardworking, and detail oriented people I've worked with in the industry. We first worked with Cathy 10 years ago on a complete home renovation. She not only came up with creative ideas on how to reconfigure our home, but also listened to our own ideas and made sure the design reflected our tastes. She was very responsive whenever concerns or questions arose, and worked closely with our general contractor, Robert Born. We were delighted with the results, so it was an easy decision to choose Cathy again when we wanted to build a new patio. It was a complicated project on a sloping site, with entrances on multiple levels. Cathy came up with a beautiful and practical design, helped us choose hardscape and landscape contractors, and promptly dealt with any issues that arose during construction. In addition to having impeccable taste, she is also a pleasure to work with. We would not hesitate to hire her again.

Based upon a recommendation from our builder, Pinneo Construction, who we’ve worked with since moving to Princeton, we engaged with Knight Architects to remodel our house. Built in 1830 and moved from its original site to its current location in 1862, the house had plenty of "quirks" from that move and prior renovations. Cathy and her team worked with us to redesign the first floor and basement, which required extensive structural changes as we opened up the rear portion of the first floor and created a living room in the basement. Cathy worked with us to understand what we were trying to achieve and provided us multiple options as to how to achieve our vision. Cathy aided us in seeing how we could achieve significant improvements in the property, whilst being sympathetic to its style. The end result has made an enormous improvement to our life; enabling us to have large, comfortable spaces for the family to relax in, and a kitchen that we have room to cook and entertain in. As with any engagement of this kind, it was worth listening to Cathy and her ideas. She understood our needs incredibly well, and her designs reflected that understanding. The construction took seven months to complete, and required a complete replacement of the house’s electricity, plumbing, and construction of a new kitchen, bathroom and basement. We'd highly recommend Knight Architects.

We are certain we made the right choice in hiring Cathy and her team for our home renovation. Cathy and Geoff worked with us to completely redo our master bedroom, kitchen, family room, dining room, pantry and addition of a powder room. I cannot say enough about Cathy and Geoff's design sensibility, knowledge, attention to detail, and taste. They were incredibly responsive and available to us, helping with both small and big decisions throughout the duration of the entire project. We have been working with Louisa Clayton for approximately one year on a home renovation (new kitchen, mudroom, laundry room, powder room, family room extension, windows, doors, siding). Louisa's taste is exquisite and I completely trust her judgment on everything from technical/structural issues to design. She is responsive both in terms of responding to questions and also in terms of listening to our particular needs.

It was a pleasure working with Cathy and her team on the extensive renovation of our 100-year-old home in Princeton. It was critical to us that we retain the character and patina of our home while making it suitable for modern, family living and Cathy was able to realize that aim, creating a home for us that is as beautiful as it is livable for our young family. And she did so while honoring our strong views about the design details of the project where it made sense, but wisely counseling us otherwise where it did not. We benefitted tremendously from her hand-in-glove working relationship with the contractor for our project and her extensive relationships with excellent suppliers and craftspeople across the region. We hired Knight Architects to redesign our 1965 center hall colonial home that was very very dated! Catherine Knight and her associates came up with a design that included all of our "must-haves" as well as her own ideas that brought our home into the 21st century. The result is an open and bright home that utilizes all the spaces for everyday living and entertaining!

Cathy Knight did a remarkable job turning our existing little house into a showcase. From the new gourmet kitchen, to the dramatic new family room, the new master bedroom retreat and the light-filled screened in porch addition, we now have a home we can entertain in with style.
