I have known Louis for over 20+ years and he is a fantastic architect to work with. His attention to detail and organization are an asset to any residential project.
Our family had lived in our not-really-anything-special 1950s two story colonial in Raleigh NC for 15 years. We loved the house, neighborhood and location, and didn't want to move. We hired Louis Cherry as our architect for a major renovation. Louis did a fantastic job and we love the results. This renovation saved the parts we liked and added wonderful live-able spaces which we appreciate on a daily basis. The renovation included expanding our kitchen and living room, adding a garage, fourth bedroom and work-at-home office, new floors, walls and ceilings, blown-in insulation, solar hot water and solar PV panels. Louis Cherry has pictures of our house posted on Houzz as "Roberson Residence." We had considered the renovation for many years and thought we knew how the new space would be arranged. Louis however added some brilliant ideas which had a huge impact on the outcome. Here are three ideas Louis brought to the project: 1) Relocated the stairway into what was once an exterior porch. This allowed the center of the house to open up into a huge usable space, 2) Orienting the new garage under the living areas with the doors facing directly back. This keeps the back of the house open to our very best view. 3) Putting a bank of windows across the entire living room wall. This was possible due the orientation of the garage. As a result we see 70-foot trees from our living room, even though we are on a 0.27 acre city-lot. Throughout the process Louis listened to our ideas and incorporated them into his creative vision. The result is a home which fits our lifestyle and is wonderful to live in. Louis followed the classic architectural maxims of designing the building for the site and the purpose. We couldn't be happier.
