We worked with Marlo in 2020 to come up with a design for our 1920s craftsman bungalow that better suited our needs. Marlo was extremely thoughtful drafting our plans, keeping much of the charm of our old home while providing all the modern conveniences we needed and wanted. She was able to maximize the square footage allowed by the city, and always had creative solutions to any hurdle we faced. Where she took our project to “the next level” was considering natural light in the design, thinking through window placement based on the position of the home in relation to the sun throughout the day. Every inch was considered, and no detail was ignored. The 3D model she presented was especially helpful to us to be able to realize the reimagined space. We were so excited by our design, but ultimately weren’t able to pursue the project past receiving the permit as we had to relocate out of state. We just finished a major project on our new home though, and really wish we would have had “a Marlo” because we know it would have gone so much smoother with her overseeing construction. Marlo is great and would absolutely recommend her in a heartbeat!

We underwent a major renovation of our 1940 home with Marlo Brown Architects LLC and it was by far our most ambitious and intensive home improvement project to date. Marlo guided the project from start to finish with poise and professionalism, all the while navigating a global pandemic, supply chain shortages, labor disputes, and major life changes. In creating our space, she was collaborative throughout the process and from day one has been able to successfully integrate and balance our feedback with the design intent. Now that it's complete, we are happy and fortunate to be back living in our beautiful home that fits our needs and works perfectly for our family. We would not have this without her.

Marlo is an amazing architect who helped us evolve our ideas into a vision and then into reality. We were thrilled with the final plans for our home addition and renovation but then surprised and delighted at how involved Marlo remained throughout construction. We recently completed a 12 month major remodel project in our 30 year old primary home that enlarged the kitchen, reconfigured the adjacent family room, and tied both together in a contemporary style featuring custom cabinets, a raised floor, additional windows and a large skylight. There were many unexpected complications, including the necessary insertion of steel and composite beams, an intricate HVAC re-direction, and discovery of a soft spot in our proposed foundation footings, During the project, Marlo greatly exceeded our expectations, which were limited to "Architects just deliver drawings for the builders to follow, right?" How wrong we were. Marlo showed that not only had she a keen eye for color and design and could do inspirational "drawings", (in 3D as well) but she was a strong driver of progress and order between the contractors and us. It was comforting to know a professional was on top of the process issues to keep the contractors' honest and transparent. Plus she has been around the construction block many times, and leverages that experience to resolve disputes and / or propose solutions. Finally, Marlo is a delightful person to work with, and she kept us sane on more than one occasion over a full year of change and stress caused by the disruption of one's home and life. We have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending her firm. Thanks Marlo!!

Marlo was great to work with. She met with us many times to get the design just right. Once the design was completed she helped keep the project on task. She monitored the job site and ensured our project was done to the specifications and our expectation. We couldn't be happier with our new kitchen.

I chose Marlo Brown because she was young. Her mother mentioned that Marlo just graduated from Columbia with a masters in architecture and worked for a very prestigious architect in Japan, a company called SANAA which has won the highest internationally recognized architecture award for excellence which was great for our theme – modern Asian castle. I like to give new graduates a chance, and because she was young I hoped she’d be less likely to reject our ideas as impractical or impossible—such as a full-size stage in a multi-tiered living room. She was excited to hear our ideas and put them on paper in an artistic and clear way. If something was unusual, she found a way to do it, always clarifying with us so she knew exactly what we were envisioning. A dramatic roof that looks like origami is one of her own personal touches to the design. Marlo is always professional but personable, an absolute pleasure to work with.
