Martine Paquin Design

After living in our 1600 square foot Edwardian condo in San Francisco for ten years, we knew we had to remodel our kitchen, bathrooms and closets. We were fortunate to have many original features. The challenge was to modernize, increase the amount of natural light, obtain larger and upgraded appliances, increase storage, provide flow into the dining room and the hallway and rethink the bathrooms, while maintaining the integrity of the architecture. Our original kitchen had a chopped up, cramped layout with two separate doors that led to a small laundry area and a butler’s pantry and another entry that led to a dark hallway. The laundry area had more natural light than the rest of the kitchen, as well as unused space. There was a tiny space carved out for three barstools, but you could only sit on two of them. One of the bathrooms was carved out of part of one wall in the laundry area. If more than two people were in the kitchen at the same time, no one could walk by. The master bathroom needed a toilet and the tiny powder room with an original window was past its prime. The smaller bathroom behind the kitchen wall was most complete, but incredibly cramped. Once we identified all the issues, we were uncertain how to proceed and needed professional help. Although we interviewed other designers and architects, when we met Martine, we knew she was the right fit. The first time we met with her, she listened to our issues and wishes for three hours. It was Martine’s process, creativity and problem solving skills that helped us get everything we wanted into a small space. Martine and her team designed various options and discussed numerous details, including overall space, cabinets, counter top, tile, electrical outlet locations, lighting and more. We were grateful to have been guided by such an experienced professional. She recommended the kitchen cabinets, which we love, and was open to our finds for the bathroom vanities and heating options. Living in San Francisco with varying weather patterns, it is essential to have proper insulation and heating options. What is so amazing is that now everyone who visits our condo cannot believe how spacious our kitchen and bathrooms are. During and after the renovation process, Martine has made herself available. Her guidance and advice have been indispensible in creating a wonderful living space that meets all of our expectations. She has been a pleasure to work with throughout our renovation. We heartily recommend Martine to anyone as a designer.

Martine is very talented. She has excellent design skills and is actually an architect so she really understands hie to put things together. She is respectful of your budget, and can tell you where to put your money for the most impact. We are not done with our project yet, but so far I am extremely happy and impressed. Martine is an incredibly talented and professional designer. She was able to take our vision, and inspiration from a similar project, to whip up a design concept for our bathroom renovation. I own a custom metal fabrication/machine shop in San Francisco. I have worked in the Bay Area for roughly 10 years doing high end fabrication of one off custom furniture both residential and commercial. We have worked with Martine on multiple jobs over the past few years. Her designs are beautiful, well thought out, and well incorporated into the houses she has designed. She has always been extremely professional and on a personal note a pleasure to meet with. If I were to hire a interior designer, she would be the one I'd call first.

I worked with Martine as decorator on my own project, she an I havecollaborated and had great success on a home remodel staging. Martine is a creative designer who took me out of mycomfort zone which was a nice aspect, she thinks outside the box. As a photographer, I've worked with Martine on several projects beginning in 2008. I've always enjoyed her input during shoots as she has a great eye for detail. My most recent collaboration was in late 2013 and the resulting images are among some of my best work. She is excellent to work with and I look forward to our next project together.
