In general, I strive for a sense of appropriateness in all my design solutions – appropriate to my client’s lifestyle, preferences, and budget. Typically, my spaces are light filled and airy with a cheerful overall quality. When possible, color is frequently used to enhance this effect. Also, there is an emphasis on creating an open flow of space between rooms and areas of activity. I look for opportunities to create vistas and visual connections between spaces in order to express an expansive open feel. Most of my designs have fallen into a traditional architectural framework which I often express with simple boldly molded lines and classical details. Architectural elements like traditional columns, door and window casings, entablatures, crown molding and running trim are all used to enliven and unify the spaces. Finally, my work is often characterized by a strong connection to the outdoors. The light, the colors, and the patterns of nature are all welcome. It is my hope that all of these elements can be combined to create an inspired and livable home. After an initial site visit and consultation (no charge) with a potential client, I will submit a proposal outlining the scope of work involved. This will list and describe the phases and the drawings necessary to complete the project. I will also assist the client in finding and selecting an appropriate contractor as well as fulfilling all necessary requirements in order to obtain a building permit. Before beginning work I require clients to submit a retainer and sign a short form AIA residential contract. This will outline the scope of work and the fee structure according to completed phases. When possible, I will propose a flat fee for all work.
