Kent and Nick at Milktrout did an amazing job, overseeing the design and construction of gut renovations for our Kitchen and Bathroom, creating a small second bedroom in the process. Their design maximized the somewhat limited space we had to work with for the kitchen and new bedroom, and ended up making the entire apartment feel much bigger than it is. They also installed built-in shelves in our living room that play off of the newly renovated space and float on the wall, allowing us maximum book/tv/media storage space without feeling heavy or making the room feel smaller. Two contractors (both of whom were brought to the table by Milktrout) bid on the job, one of whom was significantly less, which allowed us to create highly detailed finishes throughout. Their attention to all the construction and finish details, and the fact that the contractor we chose had such competitive rates, allowed us to do a gut renovation of our bathroom as well. Milktrout navigated the DOB permit process, Coop board, and management company approval process with fluid ease. The construction process took a bit longer than we would have liked but it was a small price to pay for the level of work we got. Would recommend them to anyone.

With the help of the wonderful folks of Milktrout and especially Kent Johnson, we renovated a 1920s 1100 square foot 2 bed 1 bath Park Slope apartment. We were first time buyers and fell in love with a "fixer-upper". The apartment had been neglected and uninhabited for nearly 10 years when we bought it. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into, but Milktrout was wonderful at helping us prioritize jobs to work with our budget, and carry-out a significant top-to-bottom renovation with beautiful results. We hired Milktrout to do everything: architect design, refurbishing of electric, walls (needing to rebuild in some places), ceilings, floors, doors, radiators, windows and casings, fixtures (lighting, doorknobs, closets, etc), complete demo/design/installation of bathroom (our dream bathroom/sanctuary). Kent helped us to see that we would be better off with some small cosmetic details added to the completely usable kitchen and apply our money where it was really needed. Deadlines were met--rare in this industry. Milktrout and Kent were great listeners gave us the opportunity to brainstorm. This was a big deal because we were operating on a tight budget, but we wished we could have redone EVERYTHING. Because Kent helped us to understand where and how we could best make use of our renovation dollars, we were able to come in at budget with outstanding and very satisfying results. We highly highly recommend!

We were very pleased with the design work and construction management that Milktrout did for us recently. With a baby on the way, we had to plan a gut renovation of a century-old Brooklyn apartment. Kent and Katice were able to offer comprehensive guidance on everything from plumbing and electrical to kitchen cabinetry. They are attentive listeners with deep knowledge of both construction and design issues, and they carefully incorporated our ideas into the final plans for our project. In addition, they are very attentive to the project once construction starts, carefully attending to the progress of the job and calmly troubleshooting issues as they arise.

We live in Rockaway Beach, NY and needed to lift our house in anticipation of the possibility of another superstorm Sandy. Making our old entry and porch (of the existing house) work with a new set of steps to our residence, as well accommodating the access to the rear rental unit, was a challenging design problem. The milktrout team suggested a number of schemes and helped us think about how best to take advantage of the 8' of new space below our house. We would not hesitate to recommend milktrout for their ability to quickly and effectively work through the opportunities and challenges of a complicated project.
