We hired Noble Johnson architects to re-design two different spaces within our existing home and add a home gym , garage, and outdoor pool cabana. Christian and Jennifer helped my husband and me design and build a house from scratch. It was an overwhelming process, but they made it so much more approachable and were there for us every step of the way to answer questions, provide input, liaise with our contractor, and make sure our home turned out absolutely perfectly and to our exact specifications. They never pushed their own design preferences on us and truly let us take the reins in creating our ideal space. However, they were there to point out considerations for functionality that we would not have known to think about otherwise which helped ensure we had not only the most beautiful home possible, but also one that was functional as well. Our home is entirely unique to us because we literally started from a blank page and built from there. Christian's ability to translate our wish list, inspirations, and initial ideas into a floor plan and design that reflected us and our hopes for the house was truly amazing. From the design finishes aspect, Jennifer was incredible. She was able to hone in on the aesthetic I wanted and helped me pick finishes that achieved that aesthetic, balanced styles, and stayed in my budget. She also eased the process of picking the less exciting but all too important design elements like trim and doors. Our house is going to be exceptionally beautiful because of her input from flooring to paint, to lighting, to tile, and beyond. And because of her, I know all of my lights are in the right place and the right scale, my cabinet layouts are optimal, my tile patterns are perfect, and every small and big detail of the house have come together to be the most beautiful creation. I can't imagine going through this process with anyone else and we're so grateful we found Noble Architects when we were embarking on this journey in late 2020. Bill Johnson & Kara Tully did an excellent job of walking us through options for our renovation, seeing possibilities we would not have seen on our own and working closely with us and our builder as we went through the design process. We had never renovated or built before, so we needed a lot of handholding and they were very helpful throughout the process. We felt like they really listened to us and the end result was exactly what we wanted. I would highly recommend them to friends.

Bill and team did a fantastic job on the addition to our house. They were easy to work with, on time and were available as needed through the entire process. The finished addition flows seamlessly inside (including the design flow improvements in our kitchen) and looks as if it has been part of our house since it was built. I had such a great experience with this team doing my kitchen remodel. When we first decided the time was right to build on land we’ve owned for a while, the first really big decision was how to turn what had been in my head for decades into our dream home. Of course I turned to Houzz. Since the first time we met with Bill to talk about the project through completion (almost there!), Bill, Christian and Jennifer listened to what we wanted and took what was in my head and made it so much better. When it came time to select a builder, Bill offered recommendations of builders he had worked with and even a couple he had not to make sure we had good options. Having the option to have the team continue to work with us during construction was invaluable as we were not living locally. Christian made great recommendation to improve the appearance and the functionality of the house and caught at least one builder miss in time to correct it easily. Jennifer spent a lot of time narrowing down selections so we could be highly productive on the marathon selection days. I was expecting the entire process to be extremely painful, but all in all it has been a pleasure working with people we genuinely like and respect.

What an amazing group of people! It is quite intimidating to go into a renovation project, but every person at WJCA made the process enjoyable and fun! I was always kept in the loop, my ideas were not only heard, but they brought so many great ideas that I never would have thought possible. I could never imagine using anyone else.

We turned to Houzz.com when we were looking for an architect to build our dream home. It didn't take long for us to look at Bill Johnson's portfolio to determine that we wanted to set up an appt with him to discuss house plans. It was simply one of the best phone calls we ever made. We quickly realized that his personality made it SO easy for us to communicate all of our wishes to him...he really listened to everything that we said. We literally sat down with a blank piece of paper and created our home from scratch. The finished product was simply amazing and pretty much spot on with everything we wanted. My family hired Bill Johnson and his staff to design a second home on our lot in the style of a 1940s-era California Craftsman Ranch house for an aging relative. The plans he delivered us are a stone-cold bullseye. Bill's attention to detail and attentiveness to our needs (and budget) always made us feel like we're in good hands. Creatively, his enthusiasm is infectious and our brainstorming sessions were always inspiring and helped us push forward with a clear vision. Through early project discussions, planning and design, and site management, our working experience with Bill, of William C. Johnson Architect, was excellent in all ways. Our project was a good sized garage, family room, and porch addition to a 1930's tutor cottage, although Bill turned a holistic eye to the work, helping us reconsider flow patterns through the entire house, address a shortage of upstairs storage space, and generally turn an acutely keen eye to details large and small from basement to roof. Bill moved fluidly from technical discussions with the builders concerning structural load bearing walls to designing the gentle curl of a railing, matching arches of new windows to old passage ways, and specifying the curve of counter supports--and, most importantly, was able to explain all aspects and options of the design and construction processes clearly to us, who were new to house remodeling. With an appreciation of old homes, conscientious to maintaining the historic feel of structures, and a smart environmental awareness, Bill is a superb architect. He listened carefully to our wants, was able to recommend excellent builders, draw up beautiful plans, design spontaneous and innovative solutions to old house surprises, advise on places to source materials, and aid us through the entire project from start to finish. He was a delight to work with, and we cannot recommend a professional more highly.

William Johnson is a very talented architect based out of Nashville TN. He and his wife operate a small but very effective business near Downtown Nashville.

I bought a 1960 ranch from the original owners. It needed a lot of work but the floorplan was perfect and the 1 1/4 acre lot was on a dead end street and nestled in the woods. We tore the back off the house and added on a great room with 15 ft windows. It was a bold statement but I was confident because Bill has a tool that allowed me to "fly around" the new house and verify that the modern addition would not peek over the roof of the existing house. Everyone walks in thinking it's your average ranch and immediately says "Wow!!!" As always, things don't always look the same in life as they do on paper. Once the addition was framed out and the new windows ordered, I felt there was too much wall between the upper and lower windows, and it really broke up the view. Bill got together with contractor Mark Wendling of Integrity Construction TN, and they came up with a great solution--adding crank-out awning windows--to add some glass without the expense of all new windows. The awning windows are my absolute favorite feature in the house. I keep them open 24/7 to a nice breeze, a good storm and birds singing. Bill was great to work with. He listened to what was important to me, got a feel for how I lived and respected that I hate ceiling fans and Mommy-ish style. He even thought to put the cat door on the back instead of off the driveway so my kitty wouldn't run in front of the car! He can provide as much or as little as you want. His rates were fair and he was up front about how much more detail would cost. We had to jump through some hoops with the planning commission, and hired soil specialists and engineers, but he was skilled at getting the approvals we needed. Bill provided an excellent, very efficient floor plan. The layout worked perfectly and the volume, light and functionality all worked exceedingly well. It was a fun process working with Bill in coming up with the design. Bill came back with a design that was fun and practical. We had to have a design that was creative but also cost-effective. The ultimate plan hit that target perfectly.

Bill walked me and my husband through the entire design/build process. We enjoyed him and continue to think of him as a friend we made during the process of building the home in which we are raising our family. Bill was very knowlegeable and creative. He loves to create tight spaces without much "wasted space" and we love the finished product--our home! Bill was humble to work with and accepted my ideas or changes I wanted with humility. He never lost sight of the fact that we would be the ones living in the home, so what pleased us was most important.

We have worked with Bill on several projects, The first was when we converted an old concrete porch into a beautiful sunroom. The second was the design and construction of a 7,000 square foot Classical Revival home. The third was an interior redesign of a 1930's cottage. Bill designed a home for my family in a historic Nashville neighborhood last year. He worked closely with my wife and me throughout the process to understand our dreams for the house - as well as our constraints.
