Red Pencil Architecture

We had the pleasure of collaborating with Red Pencil on a custom home project, it was a truly seamless, and rewarding experience. Marty and Andrew were GREAT to work with. From our first meeting with them, we knew they were the architects for us. They made a dark, closed in, chopped up house into to a light, airy, modern masterpiece. We wanted to keep the modified A-frame bones of the original house and they gave it new life and let the light in along with exposing the lake and mountain views. They worked with us throughout the project, tweaking and improving as we went along. It's basically the same footprint. Square footage was added for a Master Bath and Walk-In closet, a new Front Entrance and a Main Floor Mud Room. Other changes included moving walls, getting rid of the two-story stone fireplace we loved (but blocked the great views), raising ceiling heights in some areas from 7.5 feet to a minimum of 10 ft ceilings, straightening most of the slanted walls and adding more windows. I love all of the windows throughout the house. At night we can follow the moon throughout the year. They suggested the glass walled staircase and also referred us to Vintage Woods, Inc out of Gypsum, CO for our exterior which is Beetle Kill Pine. We love it!! They were at the project on a regular basis and were helpful throughout the process, listening to our needs and providing the best options for us. We have windows in our master steam shower that start at shoulder height and look out to the lake, Boulder's Flatirons and Longs Peak. Wow!! What a treat. Our house is the Lake House on the website and I included some BEFORE photos so you can see what the house used to look like. We used to just entertain outside on the lake in the Summer. Now we can entertain year-round.

We are so pleased with our custom home. The further along we got with the plans the more we realized the extent of the thought put into the small details Great to work with -- listened carefully & incorporated all our wishes.

My wife and I had a very challenging addition that we tasked Andrew and Marty with. They listened very carefully to our ideas, and came back with a concept that not only took those ideas into consideration, but darn near nailed what we had envisioned. Red Pencil was an absolute pleasure to work with, and I would highly recommend them to anyone considering a new build, remodel, or addition.

We selected Red Pencil Architecture after consulting with 2 other firms regarding a total interior remodel of the house we had purchased 6 months earlier. Marty and Andrew truly listened and understood the issues we had with the house and provided very innovative solutions. They are a very creative team and offered alternative options as we honed in on the final details of the construction plan. They continued to work with our general contractor as a few questions arose during construction. We truly enjoyed working with them, and would highly recommend them. We now love our house!!

We showed Andrew a picture of an online plan and our hand-drawn adjustments. From that he created a home that was beautiful, functional, and homey. Throughout the design phase he was attentive, readily available with suggestions and/or changes, and super collaborative. His pricing was very competitive, and the builder plus all our sub-contractors that worked from the plans did so without questions or follow-ups required. This home design and construction was challenging since it was 1500 miles from where we lived. I've said to many friends that we feel very lucky to have found and contracted with Andrew to design our home; it was like finding a diamond in the sand.

I purchased a small, old, and highly-unattractive home in Denver that quite simply needed to be razed. But first I invited Marty from Red Pencil Architecture out to take a look. I will never forget when he said, "I see potential here." I only saw a wrecking ball. Red Pencil Architecture was able to transform that ugly old home into a place of beauty, comfort and style, far better than if I had torn it down and started from scratch. They are able to see things that I could not imagine, and executed a plan that brought it all to life. I would recommend Red Pencil Architecture without any hesitation whatsoever.

Red Pencil or Andrew and Marty facilitated the renovation of our home that not only met our needs, but blended our taste with a fresh, open architectural perspective. Numerous pre-drawing meetings and consultations allowed them to re-design our small, turn of the century house from a dysfunctional living area into an contemporary, custom home. They were able to identify the positive elements of our property and integrate a new patio with our dining room that blended our yard into our home. Andrew and Marty were always available and willing to listen to our input and it was truly an interactive and personal process that met our every need. They have experience in all phases of development and were able and willing to provide input before, during, and after the project. Drawings were always completed well ahead of deadlines.
