We had a great experience working with Steve on our kitchen and bathroom addition, remodel and two-floor HVAC update. He is very detail oriented, particularly when it comes to city inspectional services requirements; Steve definitely went to bat for us with our city to get our permits closed. His finishing suggestions, down to the lights we choose, were also super helpful for two busy working people who don't always have the bandwidth to make selections. Steve's architectural designs were amazing and he was easily able to design a plan for what we wanted — and could afford. Having Steve on our side helped tremendously when working with our contractor too. When you have another knowledgeable person on your team during a big remodel, it is priceless. Thanks, Steve!

I strongly suggest that you avoid this architect. We worked with him on a project over the course of about 9 months. We hired him because he seemed extremely professional and organized. We also liked what we saw on Houzz. However, as it turned out, his communication was extremely poor. He would go months without contacting us from the very beginning of our project. There would often be an excuse of a personal nature. It became clear that he was working on his own home renovation during this time, and I suspect that that was a distraction. My husband suspects that he never made our project a priority. In any case, the truth is that from the very beginning, the only time I could get a reply from him would be when I would reach out to see whether he still existed (I'm not joking). All of this was pre-pandemic. After the pandemic hit in March, he literally evaporated. We did receive his drawings just before then, but we were supposed to be laying out details and moving on to hire a contractor, etc. It has now been months and months since we have heard from him. I do not plan to work with him further, and don't have any interest in being in contact. We decided to scratch the project entirely because I was so turned off I couldn't imagine moving forward even if he was out of the picture. There were thousands of dollars down the drain paying out to this architect. All I can say to you is STAY AWAY.

Stephen was a great architect to work with for our project. We have lived in a 4 bed, 1 bath 100 year old Victorian home in needham since 2010. We bought knowing we would need to add a bathroom once we started a family. When we decided to update our home, we were referred to Stephen through our realtor. We decided we wanted to do an addition with attached garage, bathrooms, and a playspace. The first thing he did was send us a list of questions to drill down on our needs and goals. He quoted us the project in multiple phases and we took the first step. He was very attentive during the concept phase and adjusted the design and room configuration based on our feedback. I made major adjustments to the design to eliminate dormers, reconfigure the stair location and blend the style of the addition with the original home. Stephen did an excellent job ensuring the design was right and he added some attractive design elements such as a built in closet and custom roof support brackets. Next, we decided to move forward with the construction phase. He helped us select a high quality builder and he also did a lot of leg work getting permits with the town. Stephen coordinated with the builder to ensure design specifications were sufficient and accurate. He visited the site over the course of construction to ensure the design was implemented correctly. Stephen also coordinated our selections of lighting, hardware, fixtures, flooring, paint and tile. In fact, when I had to deal with a family emergency, Stephen helped me order items so I could get some savings from a state tax free weekend. He stayed with us through the completion of the project and ensured our satisfaction. Stephen is a very skilled architect and designer. He knows all the construction codes, which helped us pass the town inspections with ease. He went above and beyond to ensure that we made project decisions at the right times during the planning and construction phases. He also reconciled all the builder invoices to confirm we were charged for work that was completed properly. Stephen was reasonably priced for his services and he stayed on budget and on time. He is a great personality and easy to give feedback that he follows through on. Clearly, based on this review, Stephen is someone i would happily and confidently recommend for anyone considering a residential design project.

Steve was excellent at designing around our 100 year-old arts and crafts home. The project included a relocated bathroom, new kitchen, as well as digging out a basement for a playroom and laundry. There were many surprises, being an old home, but Steve was able to problem solve around them and find creative solutions. The design is functional and fits the unique character of our home.

Steve has helped me with a few projects. First, he came up with a redesign of the roof over our attached garage, which allowed us to create a large walk-in closet and home office off of our master bedroom. Second, he designed a new kitchen and mudroom for us. Both projects came out very well and we couldn't be happier. I highly recommend going with Steve for your architectural needs!

Steve Reilly from SLR Architects is a tremendous resource on any project. I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Steve on commercial construction projects as well as residential renovations. When it came time to do an addition / kitchen remodel on my own home I knew Steve was the right choice. I work in the construction industry and my wife is an interior designer so we came to SLR with some definite ideas for our project. Steve brought a unique perspective to our process and was able to help develop an improved layout as well as some strong details - all while maintaining the original concept. Stephen consulted with us on an addition to our home. For the home owner, Stephen is the only architect with whom you should speak. He is a listener by personality type - I felt that he had complete comprehension of what I wanted to do. He is an expert by trade - he was thorough in his recommendations while educating me as to the code requirements I had to meet. He is naturally creative - his concepts solved my challenge while staying within the constraints of the project. He offered several suggestions as to how I could maximize the opportunity both from a cost perspective and how I could enjoy the improvement in future years. If you are considering an architect, put Steve on your short list. I've spoken with plenty of his competitors and he's the real deal; grounded, understanding, and results oriented.

Steve and his team were wonderful to work with! The design he came up with for our basement remodel exceeded our expectations, and he offered a solution that maximized hallway space we weren't using.

For our 600 square foot two bedroom cape house, we had Steve Reilly coordinate the insulation, cathedral ceiling, new windows, tankless water heater, and new cedar shingles. Steve even suggested using a Cape Light Compact insulation program that paid for most of the insulation. He kept the contractor on time and on budget. Steve was extremely helpful with matters pertaining to building permits, zoning compliance and the recommendation of a structural engineer. He also has a great personality. He seems to always be thinking about your particular project with creative ideas and imaginative solutions even though he must have more than one project in progress. I would recommend SLR Architecture to anyone.

Steve is terrific. We worked with him to build out our attic. He did an amazing job with the overall plans in a crunched tire period and also had great ideas about how to use the space creatively for closets and bookshelves. It is now our favorite room in the house. Once that project was done, I brought Steve back to see how I could get a big island in my kitchen. He told me it wouldn't work in the current layout -- but if I put in a steel beam and took some space from our underutilized dining room, then my dreams could be a reality. Project #2 started that day. He did a beautiful job with those plans utilizing all of my existing cabinets (which were only 5 years old) and adding a few new ones. He managed all of the details from working with the structural engineer on the right beam to lighting to the best insert to get for my trash and recycling. Steve is a pleasure to work with and very customer-focused. He envisions the possibilities in your home and helps bring your dreams to fruition. I highly recommend him. In fact, I have already brought him in for project #3, a master bath. Can't wait for that one to come to life!

Hiring and working with Steve Reilly for our basement renovation was a fun and engaging experience. He handled the project from gut to finish holistically. Steve is a really great listener and I loved his creativity when putting together options. For example, he came up the idea to create a bag drop by cutting an area of the foundation from the inside of my garage to the basement. All my visitors rave about the bag drop wishing they had one. I would definitely hire Steve again and he already has helped me with some drawings for a potential kitchen renovation. He is very talented.
