Our company has had a great working relationship with Spivak Architects for over 15 years now. They designed a spectacular glass jewel of a penthouse crowning a Beaux Arts building on Riverside Drive, its glass perimeter extending skyward with breathtaking views of the river and city. This being a landmarked building, removing the rooftop structure and slab to open up the space for this apartment was no easy task, requiring approval by the Landmarks Commission - a challenging, complicated labyrinth of a procedure that included multiple community presentations - a process Spivak Architects navigated adroitly. They also assisted us with converting two large residential buildings from rentals to condominiums, starting out with renovating a set of apartments which were already empty, and continuing to renovate as apartments became vacant throughout the years (this work presently continues), also serving as building architects (reviewing the plans created by architects hired by individual owners). At one of these buildings, they designed a canopy for the front entry, renovated the common spaces, and created medical offices in the cellar and ground floor - one of the doctors who became a tenant in one of these spaces ended up hiring them to design their interior. Spivak Architects are creative thinkers who also understand the market, producing designs that are desired by potential purchasers. For our house in WaterMill in Hamptons, we used Spivak . With Spivak Architects’ creative input, we opened our eyes to possibilities that we did not consider - they came up with a totally different plan where the kitchen opens up to the dining room, extending outwards with a sunroom addition, connecting us to the beautiful landscape outside through a set of sliding glass doors that envelop the whole length of the yard. The top of this new sunroom is now a roof deck that is part of the master suite. Spivak Architects have been guiding us through each step of the renovation process - from working out the plan details to negotiating with our contractor, their team has been supportive and responsive as the renovation evolves. Several years ago, I sought Spivak Architects' advice on how to proceed with a multi-unit townhouse building I bought in the West Village. After several studies, we proceeded to renovate the 16 units within the building, which ranged in complexity - a patchwork of apartments in various states of disrepair - some hadn’t been touched since the early 1900's which required structural work to replace rotting joists. Others had been updated more recently but needed a facelift. The Spivak Architect’s team worked creatively with the small space of these apartments, giving them new functional layouts and making them practical and comfortable for future tenants. They doggedly persevered through working out the tangle of landmark violations that this building came with, which included restoring the façade and wrought iron canopy to its historic state. I'm extremely grateful to have had a team as responsive and available as Spivak Architects on my side through the many challenges this building presented. I recommend them unequivocally!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Spivak Architects. They expertly designed my post-production office space last summer, which needed to be both a space for high end film and advertising clients and focused high tech teamwork. Spivak created such an intimate feeling and relationship between our editing rooms and our communal lounge space. They considered every detail during the build.
