About Us

We are a small design-focused studio specializing in modern residential loft apartments, houses and housing/hospitality projects. While most of our work has been in the metropolitan Boston area, I am licensed in Florida and maintain a presence in Sarasota, FL. I am in partnership with longtime collaborator Chris Wenzel, and pursue residential and hospitality projects together in the area. We have completed a 89 key boutique hotel in Sarasota, FL. called the "Sarasota Modern".www.thesarasotamodern.com and also built several contemporary houses. In addition to my work as an architect, I have been dedicated to promoting the profession and good design. To this end, I produced and hosted a PBS television program on architecture called "Cool Spaces: The Best New Architecture". www.coolspaces.tv I spent my internship years working for top firms like Richard Meier and Partners in New York (You can see a house that I worked on while I was there. http://www.rachofskyhouse.org/) Later, I worked as a Project Designer at Machado Silvetti in Boston working on museums. (They are the architects of the recent addition at the Ringling Museum). Finally, I have taught design at many schools including Cornell, Syracuse, RISD and Yale University.

A very detailed oriented designer. Stephen has a way of highlighting classic modern design while at the same time creating a very progressive space. Understated drama, clean lines and simplicity come naturally to him. Stephen has incredible dedication too his projects, working tirelessly to achieve the right space. One of Stephens current projects is in Sarasota Florida. Stephen is creating an update "mid century" style boutique hotel. His architecture appropriately fits into the historic significance of the Sarasota area with likes of Paul Rudolf and Victor Lundy also having projects in the 1950's and 1960's...

I have worked with Stephen and many projects over the past. Recently, we bought a contemporary house outside of Seattle. Stephen advised us during the process as we narrowed our search and helped us identify the right house. Now, we are in the planning stages of a renovation which will take place over time. Stephen has been a helpful guide and a great sounding board as we go through the process. I would highly recommend him if you are considering renovating a home.
