I have collaborated with Terrell as a structural engineer on her projects for the last 5 years. Terrell is fantastic at getting to the core details of a problem. She is very detail-oriented in her work and conveys her (or her clients') design intent quickly and effectively to the consulting team. This has a positive impact on the success of a project. Terrell is one of the few professionals out there with the passion to design for sustainability and to see those details through to completion.

We have worked with Terrell on 2 large whole-home renovations in Toronto. As a builder, it is refreshing to work with an architect that sweats the details and is conscious about best building practice. Terrell's drawings are informative and detailed, and she was always there if we had any questions. Plus, who doesn't love an architect who drives a motorcycle?

We hired Terrell Wong of Stones Throw Design to do a complete renovation of our 100 year old home in a heritage district in Toronto. This required knowledge of the restrictions of working within the specific Heritage District Plan, and dealing with the various of regulatory bodies and groups involved(provincial, city, local) , which were many. Terrell's knowledge of the limitations of a home of this type and age, and how it could be brought up to current standards of efficiency (heating, etc.) were critical in producing the superb end result that we obtained. She had a great understanding of Arts and Crafts architecture and design, and helped us make sensitive, beautiful and internally consistent decisions about alterations to the interior, while maintaining the original gestalt of the home. Alterations to the exterior were limited by the Heritage Plan, but she was able to guide us in approaches that maintained the facade but improved the efficiency of heating through replacement of windows with those reduce heat exchange but look very similar to the original windows. She also designed a beautiful garden of native plants, with low-lying decks, that was now accessible from the back of the house and enclosed by the beautiful forest that was a feature we loved from the moment we first saw the house. Terrell was always prompt with her proposals, had an optimistic can-do attitude that was very cheering and encouraging throughout the process and was instrumental in helping keep costs to a minimum. She had great relationships with all people involved in the project, and provided timely reports and feedback to us as we went along. The project was finished on time and on budget, which is a rare phenomenon in such extensive renovations. I highly recommend her and her company. She will not disappoint!

Thank you Susan, Great clients make the best projects possible. Your support through the heritage process helped make the project the success it is! I hope we will get to work together a third time!
We hired Terrell to not only reconfigure our 100 year old Arts and Crafts home but to also get it as close to passive house as possible. Terrell was able to successfully overcome all of the challenges that this project presented with aplomb and her characteristic pluck. We got a house that was even better than what we had let ourselves imagine it could be.

Nada, thank you for your kind words. There is a solution for every challenge! My forte is finding just the right one. But...It takes supportive clients like you and Gis to make this possible. I enjoyed the whole experience and can't wait until your landscape design is in full bloom!

We have only the highest recommendation for Stone's Throw Design. As a builder of energy efficient and environmentally friendly buildings, working with an architect and designer who has extensive expertise and knowledge of energy efficient design opportunities and construction details without compromising aesthetic beauty is rare but essential to a smooth project and a happy client. Stone's Throw design brings these and many more assets to every project.

It is always a pleasure working with the Fourth Pig Co-op. Thier constant striving for better materials and ways of doing things ensures a great final product. Their support in the fight for a building permit made the straw bale project run smoothly despite regulatory challenges. The most importantly, any projects we have worked on together have resulted in great long term relationships with clients and trades.
I have worked with Terrell on several jobs in both rural and urban settings, new builds as well as renovations. She brings a balance to each project, respecting the client's needs along with an awareness of material and place.
As a structural engineer, I appreciate her attention with respect to materials and layout, which she brings to each job from the beginning. Her designs are build-able from day one.

Comment from Stones Throw Design Inc:
Tim, I appreciate your kind words. I am very greatful for finding an engineer who specilizes in natural materials like rammed earth and straw bale. Your experience at the forefront of the natural building movement is a true asset to all the projects we work on together.
Terrell was referred to us by an architect known for modern design. She took the time to show us her work, and listen to our needs before getting to work on design. It was immediately apparent that she really gets how to make a house warm and beautiful, working in a modern idiom.
The scope of work was originally limited to the front of the house, but we realized there was an opportunity to make the most of the team which Terrell helmed – a German window company with amazing prices and unique products, a carpentry crew with decades of experience, a meticulous tile installer – more than a dozen subtrades were needed, and they were all great. We ended up with a new front, a renewed backyard, and new windows which completely changed the interior of the house.
I’ve lost count of the number of people in the neighborhood who appreciated the results – there are a lot of fans of Terrell’s work in North Toronto!
