We began working with Nathan on designing our dream retirement home on the Oregon Coast in mid-2014. Of course we had ideas of what type of home we wanted but knew that they were not really a fit for the lot that we owned. Nathan listened to our ideas and gently and skillfully steered us towards a design that tastefully incorporated them (or the concept behind them) while also honoring the lot, the view and the environment. We were living out-of-state at the time but Nathan and his team made the long distance process work efficiently. On-line design reviews greatly helped convey detailed information in both directions and facilitated quick resolution of any issues as they arose. We only used Nathan and his team for the initial and detailed design phases, and drafting of detailed construction/permit plans. However, they worked well with our builder of choice on issues and design modification suggestions to make sure our vision would be successfully executed. Nathan was as absolute delight to work with and his team was knowledgeable and professional in all regards.

We worked with Nathan Good during 1996 on the new construction design for a downtown Silverton, Oregon commercial office building of approximate 12,000 square foot to be located at 303 Oak Street. Nathan was an excellent listener and exceeded our fondest expectations as he designed a building that blended into the Silverton Historical District. In fact, one of our greatest compliments was when someone asked if we were the people who were remodeling that “old” building on the corner. That “old” corner building was totally new. The Masonry and Ceramic Tile Institute of Oregon recognized the outstanding use of masonry in our building’s design by awarding us the 1997 Hammurabi Award. This Award is especially significant when one considers that the recognition was made with the concurrence of the trade’s Union to our building that was not a union project. Nathan continues to this day to be a valuable resource in all matters and we are extremely grateful to have him as a friend. His continued friendship is also very significant as we have witnessed many construction projects in our Real Estate profession where several parties end-up being at “odds” with one another and sever their relationships under less-than-favorable conditions. Nathan and staff designed our second home in Manzanita Oregon. Working with him and his staff was a pleasure. He listened to what we wanted and designed a home that we love to spend time in. And we did it at a great distance--we live in Atlanta, Ga, he worked out of Salem Oregon and the house was on the coast of Oregon--It all went smoothly. Because of his interest in being green, our home is very energy efficient; I can't recall an electric bill above $100 in any month in the 8 years we have been there. We would do it all over again!

I hired Nathan to design a new storefront for my store, LifeSource Natural Foods. We are in a one block strip mall with a boring storefront. I asked Nathan Good to design a storefront that would be eye catching, inviting, reflect the nature of my business, be built out of reused building materials and not damage the existing storefront. the project needed to fit my budget. This project proved to be very challenging from a design stand point and took many attempts before we found just the right design. Nathan and his team were great at presenting ideas, listening to our feedback and coming back with new ideas. Nathan Good and associates utilized our family's century old barn wood to design a custom home for our family on the Oregon Coast. His attention to detail, eye for design and nod toward sustainability was exactly what we were looking for to build a home that would last for generations. Our goal was to flood the home with natural light and infuse elements of our family history in every element. Nathan not only met, but exceeding our dreams for this legacy project.

Nathan and his associates designed a small house in rural Oregon for us. We wanted a simple vacation home that would facilitate fishing and entertaining friends. We wanted the house to visually blend into the Deschutes River canyon in the high desert east of the Cascades, and to use both natural and fire-proof materials where appropriate. Nathan developed a simple, functional and beautiful design that met our budget. Everyone who comes to the house is very impressed by it, and a substantial number just plain fall in love with it. The integration of the deck overlooking the river with a breezeway that functions as an "outdoor room" is unique, and affords beautiful views of the canyon, shelter from the constant breezes, a visually warm, and at the same time airy and open, dining area, and provides separation of the master suite from the rest of the house for quiet and privacy when family and friends are there. Nathan found ways to use high-quality materials where they would have their greatest effect, and to be economical in other areas without sacrificing energy efficiency or the overall aesthetic. As a result, the house is beautiful, practical, energy efficient, and fun to live in. I can't think of any higher praise than the fact that every morning I wake up there, I silently thank Nathan and his team for their incredible work.

I contacted Nathan Good regarding design for a lake house in north central Arkansas. I was impressed with the drain of his Cannon Beach house featured in Fine Home Building. I found Nathan to be professional as well as amiable. He made the remote process a breeze. He consistently met deadlines. Additionally, his construction cost estimates and timelines were spot on. I prepared materials regarding our likes and dislikes in various designs and also our style of living-how we expected to live inside as well as outside. Nathan is the most respectful architect that I know. He takes into account the needs of the client while also visualizing the cost and the difficulty towards the contractor. I am a contractor who specializes in difficult and demanding projects, and Nathan always takes into account how the project will be completed. Some other architects that I have done work for tell me, "I designed it, it's your responsibility to build it." That never happens with Nathan.

I worked with Nathan Good on designed an unusual house in Cordova AK. I tracked him down and then contacted him because of his reputation designing GREEN houses. I was not disappointed. He came to Cordova to walk the property with me and get a feel for the house which would have a balcony cantilevered over the incredible waterfall found on my property. It was a fun project. Nathan and his staff were kind, professional and creative. I treasure this experience.

Nathan Good helped with a remodel project at our beach house which consisted of adding a semi-covered deck addition, which also increased the square footage of the home. The unique design and personality of the home required a focus on preserving the existing character, while also providing a bay view and enjoyable outdoor seating areas. Nathan was able to accomplish all of our goals, and we feel that not only was the architectural purity of the home retained, but it was improved upon.

Nathan did an excellent design job, checking my sketches, asking me what I had in mind, and what historical architects that I most appreciated. He then translated them into a stunning house design for Baja, Mexico. We lived there for ten years, and it was known far and wide as one of the finest designs on the beach. It was a joy to live there. He also had a very sound understanding of construction and engineering. I would work with him again without a doubt. Nathan Good Architects designed a custom home on an infill lot in Portland, OR. The home was designed for a green building expert who was readying for retirement. The project needed to be efficient, beautiful and responsive to the site and surrounding homes. Nathan's team did a great job of designing a new home that both aligned with adjacent, older homes through form and massing, but also clearly reflected the owners environmental ideals with a street facing eco-roof and a floor plan that wrapped around an existing cedar tree. I was the builder on this project and it was a pleasure to work with this design team from start to finish.

We have enjoyed the collaborative process of working with architect Nathan Good on several remodel and new construction projects, most recently completing an outdoor structure at Andante Vineyard. Nathan Good Architects (NGA) designed our LEED Platinum vineyard home. They also designed our winery, tasting room, and gardens. Nathan has a unique ability design excellent function into beautiful form. In 2012, Nathan Good Architects PC designed a large covered patio space for our vineyard located in the Willamette Valley. We wanted this structure, the first one built on our site, to eloquently express our reverence for the natural setting. The design features the use of reclaimed hand-hewn barn timbers; a dual level roof (the main roof using CorTen steel roof and a smaller "living" roof over an alcove planted with drought tolerant sedum); copper gutters and downspouts; a flagstone walking surface; and a curved concrete retaining wall covered with a mustang basalt veneer. The blend of organic materials with perfectly proportioned geometric lines is ideal and we proudly use the space for meetings, parties, and quiet solitary hours of enjoying the natural world in which it is located.

My husband and I hired Nathan Good to design a single story, wheel chair accessible, aging in place, passivehaus house. We had selected our builder prior to approaching Nathan. The lot we had purchased had some challenges and Nathan designed a house that took advantage of the lot's pluses and overcame its challenges. Our project required an architect who could collaborate with the experienced and talented passivehaus , green builder we had selected. We were pleased to learn he had collaborated with our builder on a previous project. Architect, builder, and client (us) worked well together, and this was key to the success of our PHIUS project. The house he designed exceeded our expectations. Nathan listened carefully to and was always very respectful of and careful with everyone. He skillfully teased out our needs and wants, guiding us through a completely new experience. Experienced with green design, Nathan valued and integrated our builder’s professional input, particularly related to passivehaus construction considerations. The professionalism and mutual respect between architect and builder was obvious and helped make the project a pleasure for all involved. He deftly guided us through the design process, and we appreciate his creative abilities. We also give high marks to Nathan's talented staff. He provided accurate estimate of architectural cost .We are very glad to have hired Nathan for our project and highly recommend him.

Nathan created our new house with us, in a collaborative process that ensured we both would be pleased with its design. He was patient, wise and honest, guiding us through our all-too-many fantasies and 'what ifs' to a wonderful grounded reality. We enjoyed working with him, and we love our house. Nathan Good Architects understood my design dream ideas for a new building in the historic downtown core of Salem Oregon. Nathan Good had an excellent understanding of the requirements from the City's Historic Landmarks Commission, which assisted him and his team with the design plans. Bringing the design dreams into reality can be a challenge for all. Though the building has not yet gotten underway, the clear architectural concept and beautiful design plans are eagerly waiting for the work to begin.

Amazing attention to detail and an experience that was truly customized to fit our needs and even anticipated many of which we were not aware we had until later. Nathan is a true professional, highly skilled and very enjoyable to work with. If cookie cutter is what you're after, he may not be your guy, but if you are looking for someone that is willing to color outside the lines and especially if a modern or contemporary aesthetic is your thing and/or you have any environmental or efficiency concerns, I cant recommend him more highly. We only worked with Nathan in the planning stages of our house (I wish we could have brought him on for the entire build) but he helped us look in new directions and think ahead about issues that I don't believe any one else would have. Our finished design is more than we had hoped for, largely because of Nathan.

Nathan Good is an excellent architect. He is extremely experienced. He listens well and he explains well. He works well with other professionals because he has a broad understanding of all fields associated with building and remodeling a home and he is an excellent communicator. He has great taste for all styles even though he specializes in green architecture, but it is his judgment, his vision and his wisdom that puts him apart from other architects with whom we have worked.
