Established in 1979, as The Johnson Partnership we changed our name to Studio TJP in 2019 and are now located in the Hillman City neighborhood of Seattle. We are fully licensed architects and have designed projects in a wide range of locations. In addition to our architectural services we provide environmental planning and historic resources consulting. Sustainable design has always been a goal for our firm, even years before the term was coined. We keep abreast of new technologies and "green" products and methods that can enhance your project. We are committed to environmental responsibility and incorporate "green" choices into our lives and workspace. Similarly, we are committed to principles of universal design and accessibility. We have also invested in what we consider the finest architectural software available on the market, allowing us to design within a three-dimensional environment. Our clients see their projects develop from simple sketches to three-dimensional models in early design stages and can direct alternative configurations or design changes we can show them on the fly. A friend referred us to the Johnson partnership because they specialize in keeping to the integrity of old homes that have a lot of original character. I love that they whole team at johnson partnership appreciates and the details that went into older homes and they try to keep renovations to character of the original house. We worked with them on a master plan for our house, so far we have completed 3 phases of the master plan. We have worked really closely with Ellen, she has been great in providing lots of design suggestion but then listening to us as well. She also has been great at working with contractors. Highly recommend them esp if you have an older home.

Our 1962 mid-century modern home’s kitchen/dining area had had some cosmetic work over the years, but needed major updating. Also, the addition of a deck outside had resulted in changed traffic flow inside, making a new island more desirable than the old peninsula. The open space floor plan makes the kitchen/dining room highly visible in the main living area. The total project removed and replaced the floor, built-ins, appliances, lighting, and ceiling in the kitchen/dining area. An adjoining powder room also got a new sink, vanity, faucet and paint. Howard Miller of TJP produced several concepts for us to consider, followed by schematics and dimensioned drawings for the contractor to use. He offered creative design solutions for the inevitable compromises posed by a remodel—a result of his knowledge and years of experience in residential design. Both professional and personable, he went the extra mile (literally) to meet at our home, and was prompt in producing drawings, schedules, amendments, and extremely helpful 3D computer graphics. He always returned phone calls and emails promptly. A slight overrun in TJP’s budget was a result of us changing our minds during the design process, and frequent consultation over many design details. Besides his creativity and timeliness, what we most appreciated about Howard was that he really listened to our preferences, resulting in a beautiful functional space.

The Johnson Partnership as been our architect for three projects so far. I can honestly say that they are truly our partner and advisor, and it has been a pleasure to work with them over the years. We have worked with Howard and Steven at TJP since 2013 when we first moved to Seattle and found TJP through the local architecture association website. The first project was a major kitchen/first floor renovation that involved knocking down walls, changing the entryway and adding several massive steel beams to accommodate all the walls coming down. They also cleverly re-configured a hall bathroom and a closet to allow us to have an ensuite bathroom for guests as well as a powder room for the public area of our house. Finally, they redesigned a glass and wood porch canopy that was falling apart and needed to be replaced. Through each of these projects, TJP was our advisor in suggesting multiple design options to solve our problems. And they have been our partner in selecting contractors, monitoring and problem-solving along the way to ensure projects were being done as expected, and advocating for us when there were any disagreements. Looking forward to our next project together!

The Johnson Partnership remodeled our existing house into Craftsman style. We could not be more pleased with the result. They were a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. The remodel was completed years ago, and we still enjoy it every day. People still drive by it and take photographs.

What to do with a 1950's rambler that had been untouched - pink bathroom included? And a desire to phase the renovation over time so I could live in the house and make improvements that fit my budget? I paired with Steve Campbell, The Johnson Partnership to provide an architectural master plan for the renovation. Steve provided phased permit drawings and great ideas to bring the boring, claustrophobic layout to a modern open plan that relates to the views outdoors. So far we have completed the den, master bedroom and master bath; now on the kitchen & guest bathroom. The Johnson Partnership has been great to work with and I look forward to more innovative ideas on the next phase.

Commented: showerThe shower was not meant for two. At about three feet by five feet, the shower could fit two, the splash would likely escape the shower stall as there is no door.
