About Us
Travis Price Architects is an award-winning, internationally renowned firm whose work spans ecologically and culturally advanced residential, commercial and institutional projects.
Based in Washington, DC, Travis Price Architects shapes architecture informed by ecology, mythology and technology; restoring the spirit of place to modern design.
Our work seeks an underlying theme that reflects our clients’ unique spirit of place in the 21st Century. Each design always embodies an authentic modernist space informed by cultural heritage and nature. With our clients we shape a soul for their architecture in pursuit of a “Metaphorical Modernism”. We design architecture that shapes the spirit of our shelters, knowing that for years to come, our shelters will shape our spirits. In our work, we are constantly seeking enduring metaphors as form givers. These ideas are translated into a modern idiom reflecting the distinct ecological geographies of each site with the essential mythical underpinnings of each client.

We supplied and modified 24 shipping containers for Travis Price Architect's vision of providing an upscale residential apartment complex in D.C, readily available to the local community in a less than a week. The project marked the first time that containers have been utilized for mainstream residential development in D.C., spawning much hype in the media, popup market and among the architectural community as a whole. Travis Price Architect was an incredible partner and we were honored to work with him because of his nobel eye as world renowned architect.
Through this project, we not only got to see first hand how Travis Price Architect's is reinvigorating modern architecture, but we also got a taste of his passion for sustaining diverse communities and the environment. With the visionary designs of Travis Price Architects, our residential apartment complex proved to be a revolution in architecture, resource conservation and community outreach.

I had the privilege of working with Travis on one of his masterpieces in Washington D.C. The property had a large ravine that Travis had to contend with in order to fit the home on while not disrupting the natural flow of storm water. Not only did Travis use his vision to make a truly unique product, he also kept an eye on function. As a custom builder I always think of how a home will perform over the years. Travis has that same concern so it was easy to produce a product that will last several lifetimes with the details he incorporated. Any time I had a question or problem Travis made time to visit the site and discuss exactly what I needed to complete any and all phases without delays.

With the Inishturk Island project, Travis Price architects expresses the essence of what they so brilliantly do: not only design and build profoundly soulful, lasting projects, but beyond that connecting deeply to place and time in history while respecting all that applies.

I have had the great privilege of capturing much of the architecture of Travis Price for over 25 years. I have never known an architect with such depth & creativity as Travis.
His work is a pleasure to capture, because it gives you the same feeling of comfort and awe as you get, to live or work in his structures. His seamless blending of traditional and modern materials, as well as natural & man made offer incredible contrasts of light and texture.
Our process for shooting Travis's work is to usually be guided by Travis and "the story" , after which it is easy to capture the soul of his projects. To shoot with a Travis Price, and "live" with the space requires a fair amount of time as these are complex, and lend themselves to endless variations and meditations on light, nature, materials and their symbiotic relationship.
Working with Travis as a friend & as a business associate has been a great, creative, loving ride. I highly recommend Travis Price Architects,
an exemplary firm with incredible ideas.
I always look forward to capturing his projects. They never disappoint me!

From the moment he walked onto our property until the day we moved into the completed home, Travis's vision guided our project. Now we have lived in our dream home for 3 years and I can tell you that it is better than we ever dreamed it would be. It satisfies every aspect of our "program". We learned so much from Travis during the project---he is an artist and an educator. Our home uniquely reflects our preferences for openness, airiness, simplicity, access to nature and seclusion, all in a suburban neighborhood. We are very happy with our home and with the role Travis played in creating it. We can honestly say that this never would have happened without him.

I hired Travis Price Architects to design a special home at a special spot. The process was fascinating from initial site visits, to writing an essay on the feel of the house, to reviewing models, to inspecting final plans, to making modifications during construction, and finally to enjoying an amazing finished home. As I had hoped, the house provokes conversation while one relaxes looking at great views. The entire team was a pleasure to work with!
