Debra Lanman is the consummate professional in all her dealings. She is very detail oriented, offered a variety of options and ideas on design and gave me very accurate estimates on the scope of each project. Trumbull Architects did a fabulous job of combining vernacular architecture with modern living. Debra and Jonathan have original ideas and were very responsive and fun to work with from start-to-finish. Changes and updates were made very quickly (unlike other firms I have used) and they actually completed the project on time and in budget...which I've honestly never experienced in the past! I'm a mother of small children (and not much of a cook) so Debra's insight into kitchen flow and utility and creating a family-friendly space drew from her personal experiences and went far beyond professional training; proving invaluable in the end-result. Debra was also very instrumental in managing the entire project and dealing with contractors etc. She even took me to a discount tile warehouse to find tile for the mudroom floor. It was very refreshing to work with someone who knew where to skimp and where to splurge and kept our budget in mind at all times. We love our new space and it has become THE gathering spot where family and friends all gravitate towards. I recommend them to all of my friends and will definitely use Trumbull again as soon as my husband lets me take on another project!

Trumbull Architects were engaged to design and direct three significant projects for our home. The first, a complete renovation of the primary house for which they took what was basically a spec house and made it into a very elegant country home. Their sense of space, proportion and choice of material was outstanding. The second project was a two-story addition following the renovation. Again, they imagined and executed an absolutely exquisite room on the first floor and walk-in closet on the second. Both rooms had thoughtful details which afforded great natural light, and a sense of coziness inside. The third project was the complete renovation of a garage apartment for two teenagers. They took a difficult space, moved a bathroom, added a bedroom and realized an outstanding loft like space, with contemporary details achieved using traditional materials. The result is a comfortable and highly workable space, which affords privacy in the bedrooms, lots of storage and a relaxed family style in the living room with open kitchen. All three projects were conceived quickly, thoughtfully, with budgets readily provided upon concept approval.

Trumbull Architects Meet the Highest Level of Architectural Aesthetic A couple of years ago, we purchased a farm in Millbrook that we both knew would require a substantial renovation. Having already been through the process -- we live in Brooklyn Heights in a brownstone that we converted from multiple studio apartments to a single-family residence-- we understood the pitfalls and complexities of such a project. Right from the start, husband and wife team Jonathan Lanman and Debra Wassman brought a thoughtful enthusiasm to the project. Their budget, always fair and on-point, made sense to us, and our timeline schedules were always met—due in part to Trumbull’s solid, friendly working relationships with the local construction community. As a team, Debra and Jonathan are kindness personified, hugely professional and yet with a personal energy that made us always feel that they were completely intrigued by the project right to the finish. The unpretentious, casual elegance that marks a Trumbull project demonstrates a meticulous understanding and appreciation of the Colonial vernacular, balanced by a modern aesthetic that has resulted in a home that is as beautiful to look at as it is easy to live in. Working with Trumbull also seems to be an implicit stamp of approval from our new upstate community, where Jonathan and Deborah are very well-known and respected. We could not recommend this team more highly.

Trumbull designed a new wrap-around porch for an old farm house in the Millbrook area. They kept the vocabulary of an old farm house and the result was splendid. The porch has added much needed space, has soften the exterior and yet we still have the sense of an old home. We loved working with Debra, her ideas, professionalism and execution are of the highest calibre.

Whereas many people wince at the thought of their experience designing and building a custom home, my experience with Trumbull Architects has been quite the opposite. Together we completed 3 projects over a 15-year period and it was a pleasure -as well as a lot of fun! These projects included the redesign/completion of a large home purchased halfway through construction (posing a unique set of problems), as well as the new construction of a small estate including a main house and numerous outbuildings (guest house, pool and pool house, garages). Debra and Jonathan have exceptional eyes for detail in context to the big picture; their designs are unique and span a wide breadth of genres. In addition, they work seamlessly with contractors through the completion of project. I would not consider using a different architectural firm to design my next home.
