Vermont Vernacular Design recently finished an extensive renovation of out home. We couldn't be more pleased with the result. Ray was easy to work with and both understood and helped us formulate our vision. There were many decisions to be made and he was flexible when changes were made. Master builders in the best sense of the word, capable of huge as well as small projects. We have done a handful of major construction/ renovation projects over the years, and this was the first one that was a pleasure start to finish. Meticulous attention to detail, highly organized, on time and on budget. Highly attentive and welcome input, actively sought our involvement for choices or alternatives as they arose. Very careful with expenditures throughout, and treated the project as if it was their own money. Interestingly, the variety of local subcontractors that they used for electric or painting, all remarked on the extremely high quality of workmanship and professionalism of VVD throughout. Work ethic is second to none, and we would use them again in a heartbeat. In fact we already have two neighbors who have hired them for renovation projects on the strength of our experience and the quality of their work.

VVD was introduced to the project after the blueprints had been drawn. Their job was to shrink the over all size but maintain the style and integrity. Additionally, the house was a "remodel"; tear a good deal down, but keep overall structure. Finally, at the last moment the town moved the structure permit , placing it directly on top of a ledge. VVD met every challenge with complete professionalism, confidence and ability to adapt. As a female and owner, I was treated equally, and part of every decision. Dan LaMadeleine is an artist; a perfectionist, and a delight with whom to work. I have dealt with other projects; I know well the maneuverings of contractors, and subs. Dan was professional in EVERY aspect. I would work with none other.

Design, planning and construction of a new build main and guest house. All aspects of project management. Very efficient, helpful and on time with good quality work.

Rebuilt the front porch railings and support beams for my vacation home. Also replaced rotted and damaged lap board siding on front of vacation home. VVD had completed other work on my vacation home prior to this job. I always feel very comfortable using them as they have always done high quality work and are very reliable. VVD has done extensive renovations and additions to our home including a new wing, porch, and garage, as well as updating kitchen and baths. We have found them to be consistently professional, trustworthy, and on schedule. They were reliably communicative, necessary because it is a summer home and the work was done in the off season.

Vermont Vernacular Designs (VVD) provided guidance for my home replacement. The original house was demolished. Architectural design was completed for the new structure. Construction has begun with the framing about 75% to 80% complete. VVD designed the new structure and is the prime contractor for the construction. The design experience with the architect, Ray Boutin, over a period of several months produced greater and greater confidence that I would achieve a first rate house. Most of my friends and others I spoke with about the project frequently told me "what I wanted". Ray never did that. He listened to me and responded with alternatives and explanations. My original idea was to put a second floor addition on the existing one story house. Ray consulted engineering and foundation professionals who pointed out the folly in that approach. This was not a big surprise to me. I knew the foundation had problems because I had it reinforced about 25 years ago. Ray then guided me through the transition from that original renovation approach to a complete re-build. I couldn't be happier with the result. The design was all his, but based on his knowledge of what I wanted in my house. I have no problems with the scheduling and feel that aspect is proceeding very nicely - except for the nuisance of this summer's incessant rain storms. Ray provided me a very detailed schedule of estimated costs and reviews the on-going expenditures against it with me every month. To-date the costs are running a little lower than the estimates. As I watch the construction (an area where I have little experience), I come up with many questions. The construction crew, the VVD foreman (Dan Lamadeleine), and the architect, Ray, are all patient with me and spend the necessary time educating me. They all seem concerned that I know as much about my house as possible. Friends who are more familiar with construction than I am all like the design and are very impressed with the quality of the design, engineering, and construction. I take those comments as very positive. Up to this point I cannot find one negative thing to say about my experience. My choice of architect and construction contractor has left no doubt that I have the best I could get. On a personal level, Ray and the rest of the folks at VVD have been a pleasure to work with. I look forward to seeing them every time I visit the construction site.

VVD designed and built out house and garage about 10 years ago. We had a fabulous experience with them. They employ great carpenters and subcontractors and are a pleasure to work with. They subsequently designed and built our Asian tea house.
