Anne Callender, the architect - head of her team, was attentive to our desires and energy efficiency, thoughtful, careful and creative in design, and excellent in overseeing construction. Created a wonderful house for us in a little over a year collaborating well with our builder.

We have worked with John on several projects. He is professionally clever. He is honest. He listens and delivers quality work.

Architect John Whipple recently designed a very beautiful, modern, open concept house for us. The house fits into its environment perfectly and is very well designed. He did a great job for us during every stage of construction from listening to our wish list, sharing design ideas, drawing the plans, selecting a builder, and overseeing construction. He included clerestory windows which provide wonderful light and create an original and interesting roof line. We feel that he did a superior job and give him our strongest recommendation.

My family and I have worked with John Whipple over the years on different projects since late 1970's. We have found his work to be creative and imaginative and yet within our frame of style and taste. John is a good listener and is very willing talk thru issues and challenges. He is a person of integrity and his work has shown it over time.

This is the third project we have done with this firm, and they have been really terrific. We have worked with John Whipple on all three projects. Besides being a really good architect, he is a very good listener and problem-solver. He knows his field and goes out of his way to find the best solutions and products for the project. While I hope not to do another construction project, I would hire this company again in a minute.

We did a huge remodel on our home including a kitchen, changing an existing 2 car garage into a family room and office, adding a 3 car garage and workshop, and a beautiful in law apartment. What could have been a very overwhelming and stressful project for us actually was quite the opposite. Working with Anne made it all quite easy! Her professionalism, creative ideas, interest in our home, and attention to detail made our project come together beautifully!!

John Whipple was the architect on our barn-to-living quarters renovation project, which was beautifully conceived and executed under his expert direction. He was responsive to our ideas, and incorporated them into an innovative design that went far beyond our original expectations both aesthetically and functionally. The spaces he designed have proved to be the most desirable destinations in the whole house!

Whipple Callender Architects are a team of top notch professionals. They designed our home renovation and oversaw the project from start to finish. We also hired builder per their recommendation that did quality work, stayed within budget, and met our timelines. The firm was able to transform our older home into the house we always wanted. We renovated our house from furnace to roof including raised dormers, adding a bedroom and half bath, and re-vamping almost every room. The project house was built in the early 40's and early 50's on a tight lot with restrictions; space for a new master suite, guest bath, laundry and mudroom had to be found. The solution is very creative, fits our needs perfectly. By adding space over the 50's addition the problems of a flat roof are solved and the slightly odd appearance of the single floor family room tacked on the back will now look like a unified structure, fitting well into the rest of the neighborhood. The management of the project has ensured that the only full bath in the house has not been taken out of service prior to a replacement be brought on line. While solving the short term problems of a bath room decreased the stress of the project; the longer term enjoyment will come from the quality of the design, assistance with the details such as flooring, fixtures, lighting etc. Of particular note was the skill in managing the competing preferences of husband and wife. While having overlapping tastes, the tenancy of the husband to get distracted by shinny objects and the wife's attention to detail must have made it very difficult to sort out our desires. However, Anne managed to extract goals from our ramblings in the early meetings and in latter revisions Anne was able to figure out what we were looking for from what we said in reaction to the proposal under consideration including explaining why some of our ideas would not work.

Whipple Callender Architects have designed 4 different projects for us on a beautiful oceanfront property in Maine. First, they took a 1960 style Dec house and transformed the exterior while adding a master bedroom and bathroom. This made it possible for two distinct families to occupy this summer house comfortably at the same time. Subsequently, John Whipple designed an elaborate wrap-around deck with two different levels. This deck accommodates large groups and is the focus of many evening gatherings. Then WPA renovated the entire first floor including the dramatic reconfiguration of the kitchen and living and dining rooms. Most recently, John has advised the family with regard to siting a future house/s on the nearly ten acre parcel.

We hired Anne Callender as the architect for our remodel of the Wolf Cove Inn in Poland Maine. We walked through our thoughts on desired changes but also asked Anne to think "outside the box" of what we described. We eventually selected one of her outside the box ideas and couldn't be happier with the result. Anne stuck with us along the way through the design, permitting and demolition process until we had a complete set of drawings that satisfied out needs as well as those of our tradesman and the regulatory authorities. The quality of her work and support were outstanding.
