William Wheeler Architect

My partner and I were referred to Bill Wheeler through a builder who had worked with him and who applauded his work. We interviewed a few architects but went with Bill because we liked the vision he had for our house, felt comfortable in his presence, and just had that gut feeling that it was the right decision. Our project was to completely renovate our 840 sq. ft. rowhouse and add on a 2-story, 15’ addition (a $300K+ project). Of all the decisions we made during the home renovation process, choosing to work with Bill was our best one. Bill was patient and professional with us throughout the design process. He did not pressure us to move forward until we were ready. He helped us through permitting and in reviewing builders’ quotes. He quoted us a price for his services and stuck to it, even though he put way more time into our project than he had budgeted. We hired Bill to also do construction (or contract) oversight, which is when we really got to know him. We held weekly meetings with him and the builder to inspect the work that had been done. Bill documented the builder’s progress and action items, which I loved. It made me feel comfortable knowing that a record was being kept to hold the builder accountable. My partner and I ran into problems with the builder and Bill stepped in and served as our mediator on multiple occasions to help us all come to an agreement. He maintained a good working relationship with everyone, which helped keep the peace during a very stressful time. Bill was really our rock through it all… He was always there to answer our questions on the spot. We called and videochatted him sometimes multiple times a week (if not multiple times a day). To add to it all, he didn’t mind getting dirty! We had water problems in our crawlspace and Bill crawled through the mud with me to investigate. Seriously, how many architects would do that?! The construction process was one of the more stressful events we’ve experienced, and I know for a fact our project wouldn’t have turned out the way it did had Bill not been involved. Bill is hands-down a talented architect, extreme professional, and standout guy who doesn’t just have beautiful design ideas, but is just an all-around GOOD PERSON (which sometimes seems so hard to find). He’s all about doing what’s fair and right, which doesn’t seem to be the M.O. for anyone else in the industry. We would not recommend our builder to save our lives, but would recommend Bill WITHOUT RESERVATION. He has become a family friend and our architect for life! We love our new home and we are forever grateful.

Very happy I selected Bill Wheeler as the architect who helped make our "dream" renovation a reality. Bill drew up the plans for this substantial kitchen and bathroom renovation, which involved the removal of two load-bearing wall portions and the need to create solutions to resulting flow challenges in the home's new layout. Bill demonstrated that he is highly-skilled and competent in the field. He was also easy to work with and patient. He listened to what we wanted, yet also had a great way of emphasizing--without pushing--his design recommendations that were not exactly what was initially in our mind. I am also happy with the contract selection and administration that he provided. He presided over periodic meetings with the owner and the general contractor, was key in preventing miscommunication, and crucial to timely resolution when conflict issues arose. We hired him after a deliberative search, and have no regrets at all!
