About Us

Willis Pember began his private practice in 1992 following a six year association with Robert Venturi and Denise Scott-Brown where he was a project architect and involved with several internationally recognized projects: the addition to the National Gallery of Art in London, England, fan pier high rise apartments in Boston, Massachusetts, Laguna Gloria Art Museum in Austin, Texas, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and private residential projects throughout the United States. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University as an undergraduate, received an MFA in color theory at the University of Wisconsin, and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985. A Dales Traveling Scholarship in 1984 was awarded to study traditional and modern housing in India and Nepal. Feel free to reach out to us, we would love to hear from you!

Epic Home Integration

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Willis on a few challenging historical remodel projects. It’s always been a positive experience. He is extremely detail oriented from the ground up to the final interior finishes and furnishings. A classic architect in the sense that he produces a beautiful cohesive home that is elegant, balanced and comfortable. He communicates clearly and nothing is overlooked. Aspen Owner

Starting with the existing 1960s floor plan, dropped ceilings and limited natural light, WPA uniquely reimagined our condo into a gem. His vision, sense of balance, artful use of materials coupled with precise execution created an award-winning masterpiece. Even though there were several previous renovations, only Willis had the vision to add skylights, relocate the master bedroom facing the noisy parking lot to the quite exposure, replace windows with sliding doors, expand the useful space with interior sliding partitions, craft a dynamic ceiling and unify the floor material. On the mechanical front, his design added central HVAC coupled with radiant heat replacing the baseboards. Willis is exceptional with design, both traditional and modern materials, functionality, continuity and balance.

It all looks and feels 'right' -- non-obtrusive and yet with a definite sense of place and timelessness. I would consider the new Carbondale Public Library to be one of the best public buildings to be built in the Roaring fork Valley.
