You know you've made the right decision when you post your remodel photos and other architects and investment realtors post comments about how great it looks! When we decided to remodel our 1970s home, we worked with Ric Mixon and his team at Wystwynd. My favorite response on social media to our home remodel was, "Move Over Joanna Gaines!" In our market, most homes are pretty much the same in the "Knox Box" neighborhoods. When I saw his luxurious homes on Houzz, I thought we could not afford it. But he's showed us how it is possible when you work smart and make good choices to transform a home on a real-world budget. The transformation is still in process, but it is amazing.

I would not recommend. It was an awful experience for me and the drawings were not used. The project was abandoned, and it was a complete waste. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I don’t want to get into every detail here but I’m here to help if you have any reservations before hiring him.

The process of conceptualizing a project is filled with possibilities that unfortunately cannot always be met in reality. As an architect, it hurts when a project does not come to fruition. So, I do appreciate your frustration.

Two years have passed since we worked on your commercial renovation project. After your recent review, we pulled the files and history. According to our records, you brought this project to us with the budget and design parameters already determined. We provided you with permit drawings that reflected the original programming along with changes required by building codes. We incorporated minor changes that you approved as additions to the scope of work.

I am sorry that only one contractor would work with you to bid the job. We were told that the only bid received was outside of the amount you wanted to spend. It would have been our preference to carry out your project through the Bidding and Negotiation Phase, as it is our standard to secure bids from a minimum of three contractors. I feel that this may have contributed to the situation that led you to abandon your project.

I do share your frustration, and I wish you success in meeting your objectives so that you may complete this project in the future.

Thank you for finally bringing your concerns to my attention after so many years have passed.

Likewise, as a second generation contractor and developer, I have continued with Ric and his team to produce top selling projects in Knoxville. Together we have a winning team!

While talking with a friend today about how wonderful our house turned out, I was reminded how bad our experience was with Ric Mixon. Thank God for an incredible kitchen designer and an amazing contractor who did not charge us for all of the changes that had to be made after the initial framing. Ric would not listen to what we wanted. He initially drew the house almost a 1000 square foot over what we requested. He charges by the square foot. He also charged us extra after the fact. He stated that the brick exterior added to our square footage. He is very outdated putting a chandelier over the staircase and flourescent lighting in the closets. We also had problems because he did not understand zoning in the city. I had to personally call multiple times to work out the setbacks with the city. Not what you would expect when paying an architect! I've only written a few negative reviews in my lifetime, but felt today this was a must do.

This professional really knows hot to "Site" property! He took my 2.76 acre lot and made the driveway coming into the front of the home after a beautiful curve. The exterior of the home is all brick the South and West decks are made of TREX. The columns holding the decks are all brick. The interior of the home has big beautiful windows to view the lake. The kitchen island is made of granite and the stove top is placed where you see up and down the main channel and the cove to the South. A vignette was cut in the wall to view the front door from the Breakfast room. The living room has a Cathedral ceiling over the beautiful cathedral window. The home has 4 bedrooms and 4 baths with 6000 sq ft.
