“So, about a year and a half ago I bought a small house built in 1939. Lots of charm, but the backyard, not so much. Small, nothing but a lawn, tiny little patio cover off the garage, and a big redwood at the corner. Oh, and my neighbors looked right over it from their second floor. I and my house guests would hide under the patio cover to get shade and privacy.
It didn't seem like there was a way to fix all this, but Gary surveyed the yard, its problems and my neighborhood's style. He then listened closely to my concerns and was diligent in understanding my particular likes and dislikes. He came back with three different plans and I liked all of them.
After I committed to a plan, he went to work and each and every member of his crew was friendly and professional during the work. Finished on time and in budget.
And I love my yard! It went from being a sore spot to the favorite feature of my house. Lots of privacy, shade, and visual interest. And a tub with hot and cold water :)

“Our experience working with Joe and his crew has been wonderful from design to installation. Joe met with us, took our initial idea and created a yard that captures the modern aesthetic of our Eichler home. Without him, small but important details would have been missed like pebble strips in the driveway, the honed cement block walls, and the simple cut out for the front fountain. Each is a small or simple item, but those details help make the project. We loved the front yard plan so much, we also had him do our backyard. And it is just as spectacular. People drive by our house and stop to look at the yard. Joe made sure all our concerns were addressed from drainage to the color of flowers. We gave him our budget and he stayed within it while providing a phenomenal project. His construction crew were also great to work with. They showed up on time, they left the site clean each day and kept us up to date on any changes or delays. Joe was at the site often to make sure we were happy with the progress, the plants, the layout, etc. When we did make some changes in the design Joe made the changes quickly, easily and perfectly. If this sounds like we are impressed with Huettl Landscape Architecture we are. Not only does he have a phenomenal design aesthetic, but he has a hardworking, experienced crew that is very capable of executing his designs which in our project included steel troweled stucco walls, masonry block walls, a custom deck, slate patio, pebble tile inset strips and 2 custom water features. “Colin and his firm Envision have now done two landscape design and build projects for us.
It was an experience so different than other construction jobs we have endured. Colin communicated each step of the way, he was creative in taking our ideas and offering creative solutions, alternatives and even cost savings. He was always on schedule and employs a great crew with an eye for detail.
The stack rock retaining wall is amazing how it all fits perfectly and actually saved us money versus and plain wood wall. I never knew that native plants could have so much color and visual interest for so much of the year.
His design and construction project for a duplex we own was even more creative as he took one plain backyard shared by two tenants a turned it into two separate peaceful low maintenance yards using clump bamboo and natives.
