About Us
Green River Stone Company is a pioneer in the use of fossil stone for home design and museum quality artwork, made from the world’s most exclusive and highest-quality stone.
Green River Stone Company offers the finest in natural art fossil fish and stone products. Our medium is fossil-rich calcium carbonate shale from our private quarry in Southwestern Wyoming. From this stone, deposited 50 million years ago as sediment in a large freshwater lake, we produce individual fossil specimens, artistic fossil murals, and other stone products for museums, private collectors, interior designers and architects.
All fossil fish are collected and prepared in adherence to strict guidelines established by the American Association of Paleontological Suppliers Code of Ethics, State and Federal Laws.

When I was a kid, one of my first fossils came from the Green River Formation in Wyoming. Still a naturalist with a love of earth materials, I was delighted to learn of Green River Stone Company, a business which digs and prepares museum-caliber fossil pieces for design use - - especially in kitchen and bathrooms.
My bathroom was built in 1974 and had not been updated. I called Doug Miller, Partner at Green River Stone early in the project. This bathroom is tiny, but it is the master bath, and my husband and I wanted it to be special. Doug examined photos of this small bathroom, went over measurements, and proposed ways that I could use fossils in my bathroom. The drawings he created were excellent. The options allowed me to identify the best match for my budget and style. We went with a vanity top and two half-walls of stone. Moreover, Doug and his design team helped me select other important element for the space, such as complementary tile (tumbled marble, in my case), fixtures (I went with Kohler Artisan in oil rubbed bronze) and even trim (Green River cut thin pieces which matched the vanity top, to "sandwich" between travertine trim chair-rail pieces.)
Before the items shipped, my half-walls of Green River Stone tiles were laid out, photographed and numbered, so than installation was a breeze for my tile contractor. When my box of materials arrived in Massachusetts, we were all amazed by the care and quality of packaging and preparation. It was extraordinary! (If you've bought Apple computer products, you may have an idea, but Stone River is even more derail--oriented.) Unbelievably, the fossil fish were more beautiful than in their pictures! I went with the Natural Cleft matrix. The look and feel of the stone is amazing.
The day before Thanksgiving, my contractor arrived to silicon the under-mount sink to my gorgeous Green River vanity top - - featuring a large and rare fossil Notogoneus (fossil fish). There was a question about sealants, so I called Doug. Even at holiday time, he picked up the phone and happily gave me an answer on the spot.
The bathroom is nearly done. My new Thermasol Steam Shower is cool, and the arched tumbled marble ceiling and towel warmer are really nice. But the Green River Stone fossils are the cats's meow! Thank you Doug, and the whole team at Green River Stone - - you made my dream of a perfect bathroom come true!

This company is great. I ordered a kitchen back splash piece for a client and the finished product was amazing. The fossils have a great detail and the led time was also great. I would highly recommend this company. It is a really cool product!

The Green River Stone products are beautiful and draw many compliments from visitors to my house. I have the products in my kitchen and at my downstairs bar. I have one of the larger tiles on the back splash behind my range and several other smaller tiles scattered in other back splash areas. Each tile comes with a certificate of authenticity. Shipping was fast and easy and everything arrived in perfect shape. Installation by my contractor was smooth and painless. I can't recommend the products highly enough.

We have been working with Green River Stone Co. for a number of years - from a number of capacities. We primarily represent the fossil murals and stone tops that they procure and fabricate.
The quality of their craft and artistry is matched by none. They are a great team to work with.
We do a lot of custom stone work for our clients - and the actual end result is to be expected, time and time again: superior product.
