Davis Frame Company

“The Davis Frame Company hosted a visit to Claremont, NH, where my wife and I stayed in their model home, toured their production facility, and were made to feel at home. In the design phase they were very responsive - they modified a stock design to suit our needs. During design and construction they were very available to our architect and subs. I was on the phone frequently with questions and problems - the hand-holding was extraordinary. The business side was clear and straightforward. All targets were met. There was no quibbling. Our house is complete and it is a stunner! The Davis frame is a house....and it's a work of art. If there were 7 stars I'd give them seven.”
H. Sloane Mayor, Architect

“We absolutely love working with Sloane Mayor! She is an extremely creative problem solver and a wonderful listener who doesn't get defensive about her ideas. While Sloane is always very professional, it’s also fun working with her. Generally it doesn't take her very long to get from an initial conversation about a project to a drawing that we would like to implement. Sloane has worked really well with our builder and they have mutual respect for each other. We have never had any issues with timeliness. She is easy to reach and will come over to see something or solve a problem on very short notice. In addition to her artistic talent and strong sense of design, Sloane has a deep interest in and experience with environmentally preferable products and materials. We were so pleased with Sloane’s work that we flew her out to Utah to help us with the renovation of our second home.”
Alice Williams Interiors

“Alice helped us on two projects. The first was essentially a total interior design and furniture and fixture furnishing using both some of our existing pieces and many ordered new through Alice. This project was in our condominium in New Hampshire we bought and had extensively renovated. More recently we used Alice to refurbish one of the bedrooms and some chairs. Alice is very, very competent. She was easy to work with, understood our tastes and did not try and impose any of her preferences other than offering very good and important suggestions. She was responsive to both emails and phone calls, was clear on budget issues and an enthusiastic participant in the process. We would not hesitate to recommend her services.”

“As a builder of quality custom homes, we always strive to forge relationships with developers and organizations that foster our values for creating beautiful high performance homes in sustainable communities. No where have we found a partner that supports that more than the team at Sippcan Partners. Upon hearing the vision for their latest project at Squam River Landing, our company realized we had met a team with a vision for what the essence of sustainability was; to build in a way that supports the local economy, creates and adds to the sense of community in Ashland and the surrounding area, and provides a positive way of life for generations to come. They are a team of people that are great to work with, making every meeting opportunity a positive experience and always inviting ways to meet the needs of their clients and the community at large. I give them my highest recommendation, for their high level of integrity, to their simplistic way to do business and for diving into creating a beautiful development in a special place in the NH lakes region.”
Bonin Architects & Associates
Ashland, NH House Plans Professionals
Aug 9, 2012
“"My wife and I had pursued several options as we developed a plan for our home. In many cases we were frustrated with the input we were receiving, so we began looking at timber frame plans because of their openness and creativity. It seemed that an architect familiar with timber framing had a special eye for the type of features we were looking for in our home. We contacted them and we were pleasantly surprised when they informed us that they were happy to assist in designing a home that accommodated our needs. We were frustrated because we had general design ideas but couldn't put it all together and needed the creativity of an architect. Bonin Architects did a wonderful job in working with the best of our ideas. They assisted us with difficult site issues and we are now able to go forward with the construction of the home confident the home is filled with our ideas and their expertise.””
Smith & Vansant Architects PC

“Smith & Vansant is a phenomenal architectural firm. In fact, working with them renovated not only my house, but my life! After 15 years or so of living with the property more or less as I found it, my tiny 1850 Cape needed long-overdue renovations -- including improvements to all major systems, solutions to a big water problem in the basement, a new kitchen, a new roof, adding working and living space, and a home office, along with extensive site work and landscaping. From a design perspective, they are simply brilliant. They have a fantastic aesthetic sense; know how to integrate old and new in a way that is pure genius; and are skilled problem-solvers. I wanted the house to be more liveable and comfortable, while still honoring the antique details that had drawn me to the property in the first place. Pi Smith and Stephen Branchflower in particular not only listened to me all along the way, but heard me. They gave me exactly what I had hoped for. From a practical perspective, I needed to live in the house while this was going on, and they were sensitive to my need to carry on amidst the upheaval. They worked closely with the contractor, Lud Leskovar, to assure that I was comfortable and inconvenienced a little as humanly possible while the work was being done all around me. Smith & Vansant, Lud Leskovar and I worked closely as a team. The kept me informed as to costs all along the way and helped me make decisions that took into account my both budget and my dreams. They were endlessly patient and always kind. Everyone in this close-knit firm is a pleasure to work with, operates with the highest integrity, and knows what they are doing. I can't recommend Smith & Vansant highly enough. For photos of this project, see "Houzz Tour: Beautiful, Hardworking Cape Renovation" on this site.”

“We hired DeStefano Architects to assist us with drawings and permitting on a property we were renovating in the Historic District of Portsmouth. We saw the value in their services and actually had them represent us with the Historic Commission as well. They were professional and responsive throughout the entire process. We couldn't have been more pleased with the work and service they provided. We're looking forward to working with Lisa and her amazing team on the next project. Brian A. HAYNES & GARTHWAITE ARCHITECTS

Jul 21, 2014
“I renovated my 1905 home in downtown Hanover, NH in 2009. The renovations included new bathrooms, but the challenging changes--and the ones most important to me--were the ones that transformed my kitchen and the adjoining dining area. I hired Haynes and Garthwaite to plan the project, do the drawings, and supervise the work. I worked closely with Andrew Garthwaite. I was, and remain, so pleased with what was done and how it was done that I am hoping to persuade Andrew to do the designs for my condominium in Cambridge, MA. The Hanover renovations achieved what I wanted them to achieve, stayed within the limits of the budget Andrew and I had established, and were more exciting than stressful to live through. Before the work, the first floor of the house was relatively dark. The spaces were cramped and impractical for whatever activity they were supposedly destined (cooking, entertaining...). The kitchen was an awkward L-shaped thing with dreadful cabinets, appliances in illogical places, and basement stairs in an unfortunate spot. The dining room was too small to accommodate even eight people comfortably. I showed Andrew the open-floor layout of a recently-built condo and basically said: reproduce this effect in my house--without destroying the character of the house. Amazingly, that was exactly what he did. A useless outdoor porch became part of my new dining room/kitchen. The basement stairs were moved to an outside wall, where they were out of the way (and also easily accessible, through a new outside door, to plumbers and electricians and other people with muddy boots). Lovely, well-designed cherry cabinets and drawers complemented grey-black granite counters. An island separates the kitchen from the dining area, where I recently fed ten people comfortably. New windows mean that the entire kitchen-dining space catches first the morning and then the afternoon sun; recessed lighting and attractive hanging lamps take over after sunset. I have two armchairs, a coffee table, and a large Bijar rug between the dinner table and the kitchen island. Even though the house has two studies, I now tend to work sitting in one of the chairs in the dining area, simply because the aesthetics of the space are so pleasing. Three old bathrooms--each with its own set of problems--are now thoroughly updated. Everything works, and the bathrooms look attractive. In the bedrooms, closets and built-ins have enhanced storage space without making the house look like a victim of identity theft. Thanks to Andrew's skills and dedication, we started with excellent and precise plans. But Andrew was constantly available during the project, watching for unanticipated possibilities as well as problems. The results were really terrific. I recommend Andrew and his firm without reservation to anyone embarking on a renovation project.”
Randy Trainor

“Randy searched me out for the rare furniture genre I make and that she envisioned for a recent project: redesign of the lobby of an architecturally and historically prominent hotel in Portsmouth. The lobby has an early 1900's fireplace with a 48 inch brass horseshoe sculpture and English horse scenes in relief in the terracotta walls that frame it. I make English club fender fireplace benches. Among designers I know, Randy has an exceptional depth of knowledge of the style and function of club fenders. In this case our collaboration added seating that celebrates the artistry and English influences in the fireplace, and the coziness and intimacy of a club fender on the hearth complements the more formal conversational areas of the lobby. Interior design should blend historical relevance, beauty and function. Randy's design does this.”
