“Ana is very knowledgable about the products she sells. Also, when I had a dispute with the contractor who renovated my bathroom, Ana persuaded the contractor to redo his poor quality workmanship. I have since purchased a new kitchen countertop from Ana. I recommend Casa Blanca to everyone.”

M.Teixeira Soapstone
Beacon, NY Quartz Countertop Professionals
“The short version: Teixeira (tey-SHARE-uh) has the widest selection of soapstone in Northern California. Expect to pay $100/ ft2, expertly installed. That's a considerable investment. Keep reading, though, because this is a unique product and Teixeira will give you good value for your money.
The Buying Experience. I live in the mountains far from any city, so I did my preliminary countertop research on line.
I ordered a $25 box of 6"x6" samples from Teixeira online.
http://shop.soapstones.com/complete-soapstone-sample-package/
Having the stone in my hands finally convinced me that I wanted soapstone in my home. I was enchanted by the presence of the stuff: heavy, silky to the touch, linked to nature, durable and practical. Before settling on Teixeira, though, I combed the internet and criss-crossed Northern California looking for a local distributor. (Teixeira's closest brick-and-mortar store is three hours' drive from me, in San Francisco. They have stores in New York, Washington DC, and Denver, too..) Most stone distributors tried to convince me to buy granite instead of soapstone. Many knew next to nothing about their products' place of origin or characteristics in use. Texeira in San Francisco was entirely different.
The scale of the operation in SF is small, and they do nothing but soapstone. A leisurely look at two or three sample kitchen installations was followed by a tour of the slabs in the warehouse. I was assisted by a relaxed Brazilian guy who knew the qualities of the various stones and exactly how the installation would proceed. Many slabs had a portion already oiled so you could immediately compare the honed look to the darker oiled look. Teixeira's installation contract is in plain English and includes all the components that California requires. It tells you exactly what they will do and what you need to do to prepare for the installation.
The Installation. My home is more than 150 miles from SF, but Texeira didn't hesitate to do an installation that far away and there was no surcharge--just mileage. First an installer came and constructed a physical template in my kitchen, from corrugated plastic template strips, asking me at key points how I wanted to handle the various installation decisions. Soon they called to set up an installation appointment. Ten days later their two-man installation team arrived with the cut and finished stone. They got here on time, worked steadily and expertly, and answered all my questions. The installation was done in one short day.
The Cost. Like granite, soapstone isn't a budget material. You are going to spend $40 a square foot for the stone, $30 a ft2 for cutting and finishing the stone according to the template, and $30 ft2 for the installation. Cutouts and other custom work is extra. Expect two or three hundred for each cutout. You can save money by using only slabs and no cutouts and by not indulging in any custom stuff (I had them grind out a gracefully pitched dish drainboard next to the sink, and added a custom stone window sill and 4" backsplash all the way around. Why not lay out a few more dollars on something that your grandkids may still be using someday?)
The Result. I can't get over the transformation worked in my daily routine by having this tactile natural material in my kitchen. Everyone who visits immediately touches the soapstone. It is a welcoming surface, tough rather than hard. And it's a good thing I like it, because I once saw a 150-year-old farmhouse with its original soapstone sink and counter, still hard at work. Teixeira builds to last.”

Antonella Romano Tile & Stone
Beacon, NY Quartz Countertop Professionals
“Best in class selection, design, customer service / support and overall expertise.
My wife and I just completed a renovation of an 83 year old home in Connecticut. We had planned on using a very good local Connecticut tile house and had selected materials for all of the bathrooms. Fortunately my wife visited her parents in Wycoff one day last summer and decided to browse Antonella's shop. The rest is history. Within days my wife's excitement turned into new plans, better materials and support that exceeded our expectations. As the project progressed we added the kitchen countertop and backsplash to Antonella's scope of work, again we are exceptionally pleased with Antonella's guidance and help. If you are considering an bath or kitchen work, we suggest you visit Antonella. Thank you again Antonella.”
