Working with Workshop11 to build our dream home was a dream come true! Never having done a project of this scale and after hearing horror stories from people who used architects to design houses they couldn't afford to build, we were nervous about such a massive undertaking. Stephen worked collaboratively with us to make sure we designed a home that was modern and also practical for our family. He worked within our project budget, and always came up with creative ways to design something or build something that went beyond our expectations. We quickly learned to trust Stephen and his crew implicitly. And, despite his laid-back demeanor, Stephen is a closet-perfectionist that thinks carefully about how things look and function, and made sure everything was well-designed and well-built. Given Workshop11's ability to do metal design in addition to home design/build, everything in our home is custom and beautiful. After living in the house for almost two years, we still can't believe we get to live in this amazing modern home!

I have been working with Bennett Frank McCarthy Architects since April of this year on my home renovation in Mahwah NJ and I can say first hand that I couldnt be happier with what Shawn and the team there have brought to the table. I initially found BFM Architects on Houzz from their Modernized Split Foyer project. I had spoken to several architects both locally here in NY & NJ as well as some west coast firms and none of them gave me the level of comfort and different approach to a renovation that Shawn Buehler and BFM gave me. From minute one my project was never about how to get me to spend more money upping my budget in order to increase fees rather it was finding out ecactly what i needed from my house and figuring out ways in which we could make minimal changes and get maximum impact from them. The design process was smooth and the constant communication Shawn provided was key throughout the process. From design to construction documents and throughout the permit processing and construction observation they have been top notch making my life much easier. Currently the demo on my house is finished and we are in the framing process but once its srtats to come back together i will post pictures and more feedback... but if you are loooking for an architect to help you with a new home or a renovation i wouldnt hesitate to call Shawn and BFM.

Josh and Eric combine a sophisticated and experienced architectural design talent with a builders mentality for practicality of cost and construction. They are open for discussion with builders and tradespeople to get it right. They are responsive listeners, energetic, and have a positive outlook. I highly recommend their new firm and will continue to work with them. Jim Boyd - President - Design/Build Inc.

Green Diva Designs remodeled our kitchen and master bathroom. The work was beautiful and done on schedule in a collaborative way. It was a pleasure to work with Vanessa, the owner of Green Diva, who made wonderful suggestions that made both projects even better than we originally planned. Since she also enjoys cooking she made great recommendations on planning my kitchen, and stayed well within our budget. The staff was considerate, neat and mindful of our family's schedule, keeping supplies and equipment in the work areas and respecting the rest of our house. We would absolutely hire Green Diva for our next renovation project.

I had Maryland Residential Design add a full bath to the first level of my townhouse, and must say I was very pleased with every step of the design/build process. The designer was also my job supervisor, who provided a drawing of the bath, and he detailed everything from the grout color to the knobs on the vanity before commencing. The whole job only took 2 weeks! The workers were not only skilled and professional, but REALLY cared about my home in keeping not only the work area clean, but also adding plastic barriers to contain the dust, plastic and cardboard on floors at entrances, and even mats outside for workers to wipe their feet. To top it off, they added a pocket door instead of a regular door at no charge. Love my bath!

Chris and his team are fabulous! They did all the architectural drawings for the custom home we are now building in Rockville, Maryland. They are always so professional, able to quickly answer questions or give helpful suggestions. Simply put, they know exactly what they're doing. Chris doesn't miss a detail and was a real pleasure to work with. I'd recommend them again and again.

Sustainable Design just finished a 3 story addition/renovation of our home. We went from a small, dark, 3 bedroom colonial to an open, light-filled, modern home. They blended the traditional and contemporary themes seamlessly, and the quality of work was outstanding. Both the architects and the building team were fabulous to work with- I give them the highest recommendation, and would work with them again.

Jeff Haines designed our fabulous home addition. His work is top-notch, and he is a lovely human being. With all the time you're going to spend with your architect, it's great to enjoy that person's company, and Jeff is friendly, affable, kind, even-keeled, wise, and fun. We genuinely enjoyed our time working with him. In terms of his talents, he can't be beat. He has a true flare for small details that make the difference between a fine project and an outstanding one. Jeff is an excellent listener. He really heard our needs and goals, and presented several options to get us there. He respected our choices, and was never pushy with his own views (and yet was willing to offer his wise advice whenever we asked.) He was incredibly patient when we needed time to think about our choices. Jeff has been the architect for many houses in our neighborhood, and without a doubt, they are the nicest home additions around.

We hired RLA to design our custom house which was recently completed in March 2015. We couldn't be happier with the results and would recommend them to any prospective home builder. From the beginning, we knew we did not want the standard cookie cutter two story colonial that is everywhere in our area, we wanted a custom house with a modern esthetic, not an existing builder plan with a few modifications. Builders will typically tell you that you do not need an architect, and that may be true from a construction perspective, but by forgoing an architect, you lose the opportunity to build a really special house, customized exactly to your needs. It does not add that much extra to the cost. From the beginning, RLA listened to our ideas, paid attention to our budget and designed our home to our exact specifications. While there are many illustrations of how this benefited us, here are three examples: Orientation - we wanted a house that would take the best advantage of natural light and available views. RLA worked hard to orient our house properly on the site and we now have great light, great views and privacy where we want it. The room layout also makes maximum usage of available light and each room has a great view. A builder will just plop your house on the site facing the street, regardless of the orientation of sunlight or privacy. Details - RLA incorporated details in our house that give it that custom, personalized look. Our deep soffitt details, rock stair wall and porch are really unique. Proportions - This is a hard one to describe, but RLA did a great job with sizing details, the proportions including room sizes, trim details, etc. Everything in the house flows beautifully and feels balanced and gracious. Architects understand how big rooms should be! Not to big or too small. My advice to prospective home builders is to forgo more square footage for better advice, materials and design. An architect will ensure you have a really unique home that fits your lifestyle
