Mike is so fantastic to work with! He developed a plan for our kitchen remodel to make much better use of our space in our 1950’s house. He was detail oriented and included exactly what we are hoping for in the final design. He also gave some great recommendations of contractors to work with. We are now in the process of obtaining bids for this project and are excited!

Guideline Studios (Mike) did an amazing job putting my ideas along with his own expertise onto paper and into my dream cottage! This is the 2nd project he designed for me and as usual he did not disappoint. His creativity and attention to details and space made my family's "Happy Place" a reality!

We hired Mike to design plans for a new ~2000 sqft single family house. He started the process by having a conversation with us to get an overall impression of what we were looking for, along with specific details/features we wanted included. From there, he quickly drew up three rough proposals as starting points. He had understood our preferences well; the one we chose had very little we wanted to change. Those minor changes came through a few easy, sensible iterations. The whole process was remote - a video call for the initial conversation and emails for the rest - and not only was the communication perfectly smooth, we thought the email back-and-forth was the best possible approach. We found Mike to have just the right balance of providing us with his expertise (both creative and practical) and getting our input. Iterating from an initial rough but complete proposal made the process easy for us: we didn’t need any architecture skills of our own; we were just making tweaks, and we didn’t even make that many. However, the end result still felt very much “ours”, thanks to his understanding from our initial conversation. While iterating, he offered useful suggestions of his own, making his expertise available, but without trying to steer anything himself. Additionally, he did all of his work with our ultimate budget as a hard constraint, and would point out the cost for expensive suggestions. We’re really glad we hired Mike, and more generally went the route of hiring an independent architect. We would recommend this approach (and Mike in particular) to anyone in the position to build a house, with no exceptions we can think of.

We recently worked with Mike to design a master suite and screen porch addition on our 100 year old folk Victorian. Mike really listened to our current pain points and what we were trying to accomplish. His design incorporated our ideas and he provided creative solutions to help us make the most out of our existing space. The end design is one that blends well into the existing architecture while still giving us what we wanted. Mike was very meticulous, responsive and an overall pleasure to work with. I own a 1890's farmhouse and needed help with designs and blueprints for a second story addition that would fit the older ecstatic of our forever home. Mike was thoughtful, knowledgeable, and friendly throughout the process and worked with us every step of the way during the design.
