Lanefab Design/Build

I asked Lanefab to build a new passive home for my family. Building a new home is not an easy job, but they have done it smoothly and successfully. They did a whole building process, from the concept design to the interior finishes. Sometimes we argued about issues but they were just normal procedures. Sometimes they persuaded me, sometimes I persuaded them. Normally I was persuaded because they are professionals. ;) I moved to my new home. My family is fully satisfied with my home. We are very happy to live in my new passive house. The design is excellent. Even in the winter season, the total utility bill is under $150 per month! It looks as spacious as it is. I appreciate Lanefab's friends for their great work.

We had decided to do a kitchen/main floor renovation. The difficult part was finding a good contractor. We did some research and got a recommendation from my sister to go with Lanefab. Lanefab had built her laneway house a few years ago. Our experience with Lanefab was great. All our expectations were met and many exceeded what we had imagined. Mat and his team worked diligently to complete our project in a timely manner but many aspects were beyond their control as supplies were out of stock in many cases. Lanefab used quality material and made sure everything was built to last. The finished project has had many compliments and I would recommend Lanefab to others in the future.

Moat House: The first Passive House in New Westminster, BC, Canada, a 50" wide bungalow, spanning a flat 60’ lot from East to West, designed for ageing-in-place. Working through the design process with Lanefab's principal architect, Bryn Davidson was a delight. We used items from “A Pattern Language” to define the program and Bryn used a combination of 3D projection and passive house engineering software to design the house. He also gave us references to modern-style architectures, such as the Los Angeles Case Study houses, to expand our horizons. The 3D software allowed us to do virtual walk throughs and get a real feel for his design and interactively explore how variations and changes might play out. Bryn made the design process feel like a real team effort. The house is two-storey on the north side, with a metal shed roof sloping down to about 13’ on the south side. The roof is solar ready, leaving open the opportunity to go net-zero in the future. The kitchen on the north side has a vaulted ceiling that slopes south over the dining area, which is open to the garden through large windows and French doors. The 1600 sq. ft. layout includes three bathrooms, two bedrooms, two lofts, siting room and a large craft area with a second kitchen. This kitchen-craft area and one of the lofts are designed as a latent suite, possibly for a live-in caregiver. As a Passive House, the design includes heavily insulated walls and floors, triple glazed windows and is meticulously sealed

From the first visit to their office to meet Bryn and Mat, to the design of our home, to working with the carpenters/contractors, to bringing to life our visions for our interior design and to the final inspection and walk through, Lanefab deserves all five stars. The build quality and materials they used for our home are exceptional and will weather anything that comes it's way. We are forever grateful for making this house truly into a home that our family will enjoy for decades to come. We will definitely call on Lanefab for future projects! Lanefab is one of the best architectural firm in Lowever Mainland. They have very unit idea to create a environmental friendly house. Beside that, the creative feature of the building always provide a landmark looking on the street. I, as a structural engineering, feeling their designs are fully considering practical construction.

We picked Lanefab to design/built our lane way house because we were first of all impressed with their designs. Throughout the project, Bryn and Mat, the 2 principals of the company and their crew were very professional to deal with, at the same time personable and even tempered at times where temperaments could flare and get out of hand. They stay true to their principles but are able to accommodate the needs/wishes of their clients. Lanefab is truly a company that deserves all the success.

We hired Lanefab to build our lane house in 2012. Being very green in the building process, Lanefab helped us through the entire design and build. They listened to our priorities and needs and designed a beautiful custom home. They maximized every inch of space and never comprised on design. They always kept sustainability and energy efficiency at the forefront. Even when unforeseen circumstances came about during the build, we never stressed because we knew Lanefab will resolve the situation with the highest standards. Which they always did. The entire staff (with special thanks to Mat, Heather, Andrew, JB and Alex) is exceptional, professional and open to communication at all times. We have had countless friends and curious strangers come through the house. My favorite, is a family smitten with the house. They came in with their own designer and the father asks the designer to take notes because his son loves the look of our house. The designers response was "so you want more wood?" This epitomizes Bryn's design, clean, simple, beautiful. Looks easy, but I've never seen it replicated. His attention to details and eye for design pulls everything together that is uniquely his own. Needless to say, we would use Lanefab again and highly recommended them.

Very capable design/build team with a focus on efficient, passivhaus buildings. Would recommend Lanefab for anyone looking to build a modern, high-performing home.

It's been great working with Lanefab on our home. Bryn, Matt and the rest of the team are very knowledgeable, and really took the time to help us with the design process. We are still deep in the design process but after walking through numerous Lanefab builds I trust that our Laneway House will be a quality build, environmental sound and well designed!
