John did an excellent job of synthesizing input from us, our home builder, and our designer. His work was all of thoughtful, creative, and functional. It was a pleasure to work with John and his team on our house plans. He took the time to ask questions and listen to what our "dream house" meant to us. We think a very important consideration when designing a home is having someone who listens to your ideas and incorporates those ideas into the design. John and his staff did so. We also liked many of his ideas too. He was also very responsive to our many revisions, questions, emails and when asked, offered his candid opinions. His team was always available for questions and answered promptly. We had a great experience with Melby Design and recommend their services.

John Was great. We initially had a plan that we wanted to start with, but quick changed direction to challenge John's creative side. He came up with a great plan, and worked floor by floor to ensure we didn't overlook any level of detail. He is very creative and also keeps it realistic, doesn't design something that can't be built. He has a level of construction understanding that I think some architects lack. I highly recommend him and his services.

John is a great architect and we couldn't have had a better experience working with him. He went above and beyond to design our future dream home and accomplished all of our wants and needs in the design process. He made sure to factor in and consider all of our thoughts and ideas and proceeded to take them a step further by adding his own personal touch. Using his knowledge and creativity, he came up with an incredible house plan. The layout was one we never even considered in the beginning, but ended up choosing once we saw the possibilities. John was very easy to work with and extremely innovative. We built a home 12 years ago with a different architect and there was NO comparison to Melby Design. John's attention to detail and cutting edge ideas are what set him apart. We cannot wait to watch our home that he designed come to life!

Designing a lake home with Melby Design was a real pleasure and a breeze. Interpretation of ideas and communication is key when crafting a custom plan between an architect and a client. John listened to my desires/wishes/ideas as well as offered great suggestions producing the best end product possible. He has a lot of great ideas and really improved the overall design. He stayed on track with the timeline promised which is critical also. I totally recommend Melby Design to give you a great plan at a great value.

John was great. Very professional and responsive. Came in on-time and on-budget. Had a strong vision, but could work in our input, and was willing to tell us when he thought we were wrong ... which was very valuable.

My wife and I are in the process of building the house that we designed with Melby Designs. John was amazing to work with, I cant say enough about him. We had worked with a different company in the past to create another floor plan and design and the process was so much more difficult and less streamlined. Melby Designs was able to take what we gave him (a bunch of pictures and random ideas that we liked) and make a beautiful forever home for us that fit our style spot on. We cannot sufficiently express our appreciation to John Melby for the work he performed in designing a contemporary, single-story home for us. We began with a discussion of general ideas and preferences for living areas and storage space, and ultimately arrived at a plan with which we were extremely satisfied. No detail was deemed too small; he considered every change or addition on its architectural, functional, and personal preference merit. What was most impressive was John’s flexibility with regard to our ideas and his suggestions to improve those ideas, and his imagination to see what we had not. His casual, yet professional demeanor made us look forward to each discussion of the design process. John also made multiple alterations to the roof design to meet architectural requirements requested by the HOA. He presented several alternatives to maintain the “look” that we desired in the house, illustrated each change, and answered all of our questions regarding its impact on the functionality of the home. As the roof changed, he presented options to improve the appearance and function of the roof and of the interior space using larger windows. His work was very creative and comprehensive, and we would highly recommend him. Construction of the home has not started.
