About Us

Award winning Home designer,Ron Globke, has been working in the building industry since 1985, He started out as a carpenter in the early years and built many homes with his hands. After a short stint in the Army(4 years), he put his knowledge of building to work with Fullerton Building Systems in Worthington, Minnesota. At Fullerton Building Systems, he was part of the design team that designed and built fast food restaurants (Taco Bell, Wendys, Burger King, and Steak and Shake) and hotels (Fairfield Inn, Days Inn, Comfort Suites) accross the country. After moving to Cincinnati with his family in 1996, Ron worked in a Truss Manufacturing Facility(Western Building Products). His experience in roof design is far greater then most in the home design industry. Having to design roof truss systems on up to 300 projects a year allows Ron to virtually see in his mind what a house is going to look like while he draws the floor plan. In 1999 Ron decided to help out builders and home owners whom were working with less than desirable plans by starting a design firm part time. After a few short years of trying to do both the truss design and Home design, Ron started Sensible Home Design full time and has operated the company since then. With more than 500 homes designed, Ron has a vast knowledge of what it takes to design a home with all the charm and functionality that is required.

Ron designed our beautiful new home, and it's amazing! When people come into our home, they all tell me it's their dream home, yet it didn't cost as much to build as their more expensive homes. Ron listened to our unique circumstances with my special-needs son, and he designed a very practical house that is both beautiful and functional. We've been living in it for 2 years now, and we love it more each day. Ron was very responsive to every request, and he gave his professional opinion when we needed his guidance. Our biggest problem now is that everyone wants to move in with us.

Derrick Burchett

Not sure what happened, paid the deposit to get in line in spring of ‘21 checked in with him after a few months to see where he was at for our project. Checked in a few months later, we are roughly 6 months now after deposit to see if he was able to work out a problem and just asked for a simple update, I was told he would call me back which I have not heard from him and I have rechecked in after a week of waiting and now it appears he has ghosted. I requested to cancel with him since he wouldn’t answer a simple question of the status of my project, he actually did respond and said he would send a refund which it has now been a few more weeks with no refund and no answer as to how he would send it as I have asked about. As of right now it looks like I am out the deposit and back to square one.

Derrick, I appreciate your constructive criticism. I will use these comments to try and improve my business in ways that didn't work well for you. I have been in this business for 35 years, and every once in a while a project is just not a fit for both the homeowner and the building designer. It deeply saddens me that I couldn't get your project done for you in the time that you wished it would be done. I hope that you can find a designer that will work for you. I just want to clear up the review so anyone that is interested in SHD can know how the situation has been resolved.
1. The full deposit has been Refunded. We use Paypal for payments. All disputes are handled by the Paypal app and in this case as soon as you requested the return the money was put into escrow by Paypal. I approved the refund and to the best of my knowledge, it has been returned to you by Paypal.
2. As soon as the refund was requested, I moved on to other projects. I didn't realize that I still had to communicate with you after the refund. This is why the ghosting occurred. I guess.
Again, this is definitely not what I wanted to happen. I wish you the best of luck in the future.

My wife and I absolutely love the house that Ron designed for us. He did a phenomenal job melding our ideas, conveyed in one initial meeting, into preliminary plans that hit all the marks. In two efficient meetings after, he had finalized our dream home, incorporating our minor tweaks to take the design to completion. Ron was great at explaining his reasoning, any trade-offs we faced, and leveraging his adjacent knowledge to provide guidance to aid us with our decisions. This includes him providing significant input regarding cost and highlighting potential suppliers with a good quality product at reasonable price points. Also, from the start up to the present, I have always felt like I've been working with a long-standing friend in all of my interactions with him. He is always willing to do anything he can to aid the project come to a happy outcome. Summing it up, Ron is gifted, a true master of his craft - and I am very thankful that my wife and I were pointed in his direction.

Where to start!? The process from start to finish was absolutely perfect. Ron and Jake kept the project moving forward and went over every aspect of the home with us as we were designing our forever home. They hit the nail on the head and made it even better than we had envisioned. I highly recommend Ron and Jake at Sensible Home Design. As excited as I am to have the finished project it makes me a little sad that this part of the design process has come to an end!

Ron did a tremendous job designing my house. We first talked general ideas on what my family wanted/needed, and then met up multiple times to work out the finer details. He was patient and explained many home building aspects to me and brought tons of knowledge to the table to enable me to make decisions. I could not be happier with the final result. We started our house design project with Ron back in early 2014. It is now 2017 and we are finally having the house built. Through out that 3 year span, Ron worked with us as details changed and costs were reduced thru design to help meet our budget. I especially like the fact, in this day and age, that he uses 3D design software to design his homes which not only helps with the construction it also helps with us the consumers to see a 3D image of what our home will look like.

Ron with Sensible Home Design has been able to take my ideas and make them come to life through high quality building renderings and job ready construction blueprints on several jobs (porch additions, garage additions, full house prints, new construction and remodeling). I come to Ron with some sketches and ideas and he is able to get the necessary information quickly and efficiently and turn around high quality renderings that I use to sell jobs to my customers. The renderings not only look good, but his background in construction helps him make usable effective designs that save time and money on my projects. I will continue to use Ron on future projects and can't recommend him highly enough.

Commented: Can you tell me how tall your ceilings are in this home?The Height of the room that you are showing is 12' w/ a dropped soffit around the outside edge at 11'. The rest of the house is 10' on the first floor and 9' on the second floor. I hope that answer...
