Seeing is Believing. Our state of the art computer generated images and videos allow you to live in your house before you live in your house. Once upon a time, customers needed to be satisfied with pen-and-ink sketches that lacked dimension or perspective. Customers needed to be able to read and understand a blueprint without the experience of reading them. The Design Guy knows that sketches are not enough. You want to know what your house will truly look and feel like. Many of our clients say this is what they see on HGTV! We take you through tours of your house before it is ever built. This allows you to make complicated changes in the virtual world rather than expensive changes in the field. The most dreaded aspect of home building is “change orders.” Technology allows our customers to make and see their changes in the virtual world during an online meeting session or in person before they are living the problem in the real world.

From the time we first called Ken about our plans for 2 additions and a complete renovation of our home 4 years ago he was very courteous and professional. It has taken us some time to get started and we are now complete. He came to residence and spent most of the day listening to our vision and plans. Ken was taking notes, writing down measurements and entering them in his CAD program. When he left we were able to see his drawings with his CAD program a general idea as to what our vision was going to look like. After a few more meetings and recommendations from Ken on changes to our design he produced our plans that we could submit to our builder and the county for our permits. We did have one problem with a measurement that I found once the brick for the addition was removed. I called Ken and he answered his phone on the second ring. I explained the problem and he asked me to send him some pics and measurements so he could make the necessary changes. I had an updated plan within 2 hours. In kens defense this was some thing that was hidden by the brick veneer that he was not able to see during the design phase and was revealed when the brick was removed. This was the only problem we had with his drawings and he made corrections immediately. Ken always told us through this process that there is the chance for problems and if we have them to call him immediately and he will take care of them whether it was a problem with the plans, contractor or the county. We ended up with a one of kind gorgeous home that we plan to live in for the rest of our lives. If I was to ever do another build I would most definitely us him a gain. Ken Latham is everything his website says he is, and I am so glad I chose him to help me with the addition to my home. I knew what I wanted, but didn't know how to make it happen. Ken did that for me. He translated my idea into reality, showed me a 3D rendering of what that would look like, and then patiently made real-time changes until I had exactly what I wanted. He remained a resource throughout the building process, always available to address any question or concern I had. He went well beyond what he was required to do for me, and he will do the same for you.

I have acquired Ken’s services (The Design Guy) a couple of times now. Ken is not the first designer I’ve used however, he is the best I’ve used! Ken is not only extremely knowledgeable and up to date, he’s extremely personable, thorough, and exudes professionalism across the board. Ken really does go the extra mile for his clients and in my case as a General contractor, meets with my client who’s garage, addition or whatever project I’m using his services for, and provides great clarity, visualization of the future project as well as easy and detailed plans to work from. Another great bonus that comes with his services is that he sticks with you throughout the job and should any discrepancy arise in plan features/ details within building codes he’s available in an instant to help remedy the situation. That alone is worth the more than most realize when it comes to working with differentiating codes among different municipalities. Something I have not found elsewhere! All and all Ken is and will be my got to for design and architectural services and should be yours as well!

In this case we were adding a room over a two-story family room. Cavalier Renovation ran into an unexpected issue with a load bearing pier that ended up under the existing HVAC unit. Of course, that would not work! I was able to relocate the pier(s) and beam to support the load within 4 hours and give them the revised drawings

Ken has done two very big jobs at our home. About 4 years ago we decided to add a wing onto our home which would add a sitting room onto our main bedroom. We were unable to "picture' exactly what it would look like. However, with Ken's help, we not only were able to picture it from the outside of our house but also knew exactly what the room would now look like inside!!! I truly couldn't have proceeded with this project without Ken's help and knowledge. Also, we are presently in the middle of remodeling our kitchen and again with Ken's help this project is also going to proceed. We are actually changing the footprint quite a bit and would not have had a clue as to how this would work without Ken's help. I would highly recommend Ken if you were considering any type of remodeling project in your home. His video and lifelike designs will give you a true picture of what the finished product will look like.

I spoke at great length with a friend of mine on the other side or the country in Portland Oregon about my concerns. She gave me some wonderful insights and ideas I needed to be satisfied the final design.
I called Cindy to let her know what I had discovered and setup an online meeting. I showed her the new design in 3d. She loved the concept and we created a final design of the new kitchen, ready for the cabinet maker.

Over the last few months, Ken Latham (The Design Guy) has prepared the design plans for me for two projects (a detached garage and a screened-in deck). In each case, he did an exceptional job. The general contractor also said Mr. Latham did an exceptional job on the designs. In all my dealings with Ken, he was always professional, always available to answer questions, and had a complete understanding of the building codes in the jurisdiction the projects were located. He is the kind of person you would like to deal with. He is professional, courteous, patient, understanding, available for answering questions, making suggestions, and timely. I would recommend Ken to anyone who wanted a five star design.

As a former homebuilder, I have worked with Ken on various projects for over ten years. The culmination of these projects was working with Ken on my personal home, Silver Water—a sizeable shingle-style house on the Chesapeake Bay.
Ken actually designed two homes for me. The first one, at nearly 6,000 square feet, was beautiful and exactly as we wanted. It was stunning—complicated roof lines, multi-axis footprint, walls of glass, and a unique design. Sadly, the bids came back, and I realized the house of my dreams was way too expensive. So, Ken went back to his drawing board. We needed to shrink the house by 1500 square feet, a tall order. It was so much more than making a big box a smaller box. It was a complete redesign.
And so, Ken rose to the challenge again. And with close collaboration, Ken reimagined the big house smaller. It was a triumph of design blended with beauty and functionality. We built the house in record time, and a large part of that speed was perfect plans, precise details, and comprehensive notes. Ken called out details on every page to make them clear, biddable, and buildable. When it was finished, we were proud to call this new house our forever home.
Ken is not only a capable designer, but a kind and supportive human. He remains available long after the project is complete when questions arise or advice is needed. If you dream big, like me, Ken can help you realize that dream into a spectacular reality.

When you mentioned, " He remains available long after the project is complete," I'm sure you are talking about the rain leaking into the kitchen from (2022) last year. Evan had had multiple roofing, framing, and siding contractors trying to locate the leak unsuccessfully. Eventually, Evan called me as a last resort since I designed their home and understood the total design better than anyone. We did an online meeting where he could show me where the leak was in the kitchen. About fifteen feet from any exterior walls. I was able to point him to one area on the back of the house that was the likely leakage point. This seemed unlikely since it was protected under an eave. It turned out that the installed gutters were run under the eave, almost against a wall. With heavy rain or melting snow, the gutters would overflow and force water into the wall. We believe this mainly happened during the winter. The snow would thaw and refreeze, making its way into the wall from the soffit. The damage was repaired, and gutters were relocated to solve the leak.
I have always enjoyed working with you and am very happy to be able to resolve your leak issue.

Using Ken was the best money we spent on our whole house remodel. He is approachable, kind, patient, diligent and gets to know your style to help him make appropriate project suggestions. He hung with us for every inch of the project, communicating with contractors, making minor tweaks, answering tons of questions. The scope of this project was huge, involving the design and construction of a roof truss of which he verified the design with an engineer. It also involved all new windows from new construction, a deck, and 1000 square feet of addition which was subdivided into rooms, custom bathrooms and closets.
Some things went awry with our plan, no fault of Ken. Our original plan was rejected by the county due to flood plain issues and we had to make some major modifications. Not only did Ken roll gracefully with the punches, but worked additional hours and expedited our plans to keep us on schedule.
We felt like Ken always had time for us and never made us feel rushed or like we were asking a stupid question. He was always there if an inspector had a question or if we simply wanted advice on an upcoming part of the project. He is a genuine and talented designer that knows his trade and will get you a high quality product at a very fair price.

Previously, we had hired this firm and the Owner to assist us on a commercial project, he demanded a site visit fee of $400.00, we paid that to him, a few days later after his site visit, he stated the job was above his competence, kept our funds and referred us to another firm. We understood that some jobs, companies are not suited for and have no ability to complete due to their limitations and competence.
We then hired this firm to complete a simple drawing, which we felt he was capable of accomplishing.... we were not told his new billings for the new job would include travel time to and from his Office to the location, where is Office is 30 minutes from the location which he charged 3 hours for and not the true 1 hour for to and from travel. He then went on to state if we did not pay his excessive bill, he would take us to court for his travel time,
We questioned him on his practices and excessive billings. We also requested drawing and photos; he only supplied his draft drawing after he was questioned on his invoice. We have terminated his engagement and would warn others to be wear.

My husband and I are planning on renovating our basement on Lake Gaston, NC. I wanted something that was going to look natural and flow with the rest of the house. I found Ken through a Google search and was amazed at all of the great reviews he had from previous customers. From my initial email to Ken and through out the whole process he has been wonderful to work with. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!! He traveled to Lake Gaston and spent most of the day designing, measuring and coming up with our plan. By the end of the day, we had a 3D video of the final plans. WOW was that impressive. I have met with my potential builder and he has worked with Ken in the past and he stated that having Ken's plans were a huge asset to him. I will post pictures once this project is completed. If you are contemplating any type of renovation or building project, do not hesitate to go with Ken. My husband and I enjoyed meeting Ken and are so pleased with this design.

Working with Ken on the design for my Kitchen and Bedroom addition was absolutely Amazing. His ability to visualize my project and bring it to Life exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds.
