“My wife and I had the great good fortune to work with Donna Godwin at G&H to design our kitchen. We have an odd, historic home -- the last original log cabin in Arlington -- and the prior owners' 1980's remodel was a yucky white laminate and particle board mess. We wanted a Craftsman-themed kitchen, something that would fit easily with the look of the home while not appearing formulistic. The house is idiosyncratic and we wanted the kitchen to look like part of the house, not like a derivative from some magazine article. It had to show expert craftsmanship and quality, but not seem contrived. Donna visited our home several times, spent a lot of time and effort thinking through the entire structure and our goals, delicately helped us see why our architect's ideas needed re-thinking, and produced some compelling plans. She knew what we wanted far better than we could actually express our wishes. She read our minds on design and all the rest: cabinets, countertops, pulls, flooring, lighting -- her advice was great. She stood her ground when we got a bit crazy with some ideas, but was flexible when there were things we just had to incorporate. We enjoyed working with Donna, appreciated the care with which she listened (and honored our budget), and made sure that we got what we wanted. I'd work with her again in a heartbeat.”
