I'm a trained woodworker and furniture maker operating in the San Francisco Bay Area. I received my formal training at the world renowned College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking program, right here in Northern California. I build custom pieces from commission and on spec. I also do custom home built-in's, restoration, and remodels. My furniture pays close attention to the details; the lines on a piece, the negative spaces, the details that your fingertips find first. I'm in love with the work I do, and it consumes me. When I work with a client, I first gain insight into their lives; their needs, their wants. Together we work toward finding that final product that makes them happy to come home. An object that you interact with everyday and that fits you like a tailored shirt. My clients understand and appreciate the value in owning fine furniture. In this time of throw away products, there are still some who would prefer to live with their furniture for life, something that will pass on for generations, heirloom quality. I am excited to work with you and get started on your custom piece. Instagram: vorrath_woodworks ****Announcement: My club chair, "Don Draper" will be a part of The Maloof Foundation’s upcoming exhibition, California Wood Artists: Maloof and Beyond, opening on October 2, 2016 and running until February 11th, 2017 at the Maloof museum in Rancho Cucamonga, California.****

My obsession with living spaces began in childhood as I learned, without knowing at the time, that how my environment was designed directly effected how I felt. I would ask my parents to take me to open houses so I could walk through the houses and experience the floorpans. I started to draw floor plans envisioning what I now know to be ranch style houses with pools in the center of a c-shape structure... I still love those floor plans! When I wrote a paper in 5th grade about becoming an architect when I grew up, and learned I would need 8 years of school, I promptly decided that would not be the career for me... If only I had known I would spend 20 years self-educating about design, architecture and the energy of how people respond to their environments. In 1998, I purchased an Edwardian duplex built in 1897 in the Bernal Heights area of San Francisco. It was a "fixer" and by "fixer" I mean a house that I would improve myself, with the help of my mother, the Alameda Flea Market, Urban Ore in Berkeley, and some willing friends... It was a true labor of love that proved fruitful and led me and my then boyfriend to pursue our passion for remodeling 5 homes, and eventually, building 7 homes. Along the way, with 18 moves and two kids added to the mix, we ditched our original careers (me a pilates instructor and him a chiropractor). It seems our interest in the "structure" of bodies translated to homes... the rest is history. I work with people who are hungry to make the most of their lives, to live their potential and fulfill their true purpose. So please don't try to fit your life into what's around you, change what's around you to fit your life. If you are here to play hard, then design a space for never-ending parties and adventures with the people you love. If you're here to create, design a life that allows you to do your best work, surrounded by mind-blowing beauty and ritual. My work (and years of therapy and personal experience) supports relationships during what is, no matter what, a stressful time. And, it's time for you to get what you want. There's nothing I love more than tearing down walls and hanging strings of lights so you can live big. I look forward to knowing you.

BEST OF HOUZZ (DESIGN): 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 ; BEST OF HOUZZ (CUSTOMER SERVICE): 2016, 2013, Mark English AIA and his associates at Mark English Architects create beautiful modern architecture, exploring the power of simple forms and spaces specific to place and client desire. Since its founding in 1992, Mark English Architects has designed numerous residential and entertainment spaces throughout California, Arizona, Texas and Mexico. The firm has a special interest in building in the urban context, with half of its work occurring in San Francisco. Mark English Architects offers a designer's sense of artistry, supported by practical knowledge gained from years of direct hands-on building experience, having worked as a carpenter on his first realized home design at the age of 19. The team respectfully guides the the client towards what could, and what should, happen in a space - so that they are both pleased and surprised by the results. Mark's undergraduate experience at CalPoly included rigorous training in engineering and structural principles. Incorporating practical experience with structural systems and energy efficiency to the project early helps to streamline the design process. Graduate studies at the Syracuse University campus in Florence, Italy complemented Mark's interests in Greco-roman and Mesoamerican archaeology and history. As a licensed architect, Mark has supported the profession and his colleagues through participation in the AIA, the local AIA's Small Business Committee, and by coaching his peers on new strategies for social media and marketing. He has also promoted principles of energy-efficient design as it relates to compliance with California's Title 24 energy code, as well as green building programs such as Green-point Rating and the California Solar Initiative. Mark English is the editor of two respected online magazines, and along with co-editor and writer Rebecca Firestone, has created a forum for the local architectural community with"The Architects' Take". A second online publication, "Green Compliance Plus" features residential energy compliance case studies and advice, as well as serving as a portal for Residential Title-24 services tailored for architects as clients. The Firm is located in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood.

We have discovered that good projects are created by bringing together a team of individuals who together, and individually, are driven by a deep passion and desire to produce the best project possible. This dedication remains regardless of the number of the hurdles they face along the way. And because all projects face hurdles, the thing that distinguishes a good project from a great project is how the project team and its members deals with these hurdles.

Studio 300A Architecture is primarily focused on design coherence and in place-making. We don’t believe that buildings are stand-alone products to be placed on the land, rather they are a highly responsive occurrence that is a unique and unrepeatable result of the people who shape and use them, the climate, terrain and the community they continually interact with. We are striving for "somewhereness". This may sound a bit heady or theoretical, but the feeling of a well designed building is quite the opposite; it’s a very primal, solid and visceral experience—and when it’s a part of one’s daily life it can’t help but to underscore the importance of that life. One other thing that is important to us is the notion that good design is not so closely linked with big budgets. In fact, as the years pass we can often see an inverse relationship between the two. Though based in Marin County, CA, we are focused most in small houses through modest means.

A successful project is when our client feels that their interior is an expression of themselves. It’s not about our personal style—but about how we can help clients better express their own. We never lose sight of this, and strive for transparency and timeliness with all our clients. Utilizing our extensive training and experience in architecture and construction, BK Interior Design has the capability to design from the ground up. We can do everything from moving walls to designing custom end-tables. Our expertise in finishes and our rich background in myriad design aesthetics give us the ability to cater to all design styles. And whether in California’s wine country, the beaches on Long Island, or a highrise in Chicago, our interiors always reference context, purpose, and place.
