I rarely write a review but feel I must share our wonderful experience working with Berkeley Mills for our kitchen remodel. I had admired their cabinetry and furniture in the showroom for years and couldn’t be happier that we chose to go with them. From the design process, through review and revisions to the build and installation they were great to work with. As with most remodels problems arose. They problem solved and made changes when needed. The end product is beautiful and so delightful to work in with everything well designed and functional. In addition to the kitchen Berkeley Mills built custom shelving and a media cabinet in the adjoining family room and a bathroom vanity to match - it’s perfect.

I can’t say enough about the design and craftsmanship of Berkeley Mills. I worked directly with Tiago and the designers to create four beautiful pieces for my home. They custom designed a headboard with built in light and storage that is gorgeous and useful. I also had a media cabinet and buffet. Each piece is perfectly balanced with beautifully matched wood and details. The craftsmanship was beyond my expectation. I feel lucky to have found them.

Berkeley Mills fabricated and installed cabinetry for our city apartment kitchen and foyer renovation. The cabinetry project consisted of a complete custom kitchen, floor to ceiling foyer wall cabinets and veneering the inside surface of the apartment entry door. This was not a typical Berkeley Mills project in that they were executing a (nearly) completed design by my out of state designer -- ordinarily Berkeley Mills both designs and fabricates their projects. My project manager immediately adopted the design provided to him and proceeded to refine it and improve upon it in subtle, but significant, ways. (A reader of this review would be shocked to know how many conversations my project manager and I had about a millimeter here and a millimeter there.) Working with the company was a complete pleasure from start to finish -- even a little issue that took some time to resolve was handled seamlessly and professionally. From drawings through fabrication to installation, every aspect of the job was professional, precise and timely. My wife and I are thrilled with the resulting kitchen and foyer and look forward to enjoying them for many years to come.

The Berkeley Mills people designed, built and installed a full set of beautiful, modern vertical grain maple cabinetry in the kitchen and dinette of our French provincial Oakland home (circa 1938). The execution of the entire process was virtually flawless from beginning to end, given, of course, the need for minor adjustments along the way (not necessarily involving the work of Berkeley Mills) — as we encountered some surprises behind the original walls and worked together to solve inevitable problems. The Berkeley Mills designer and project manager communicated genuine personal interest in our relatively small project, appreciated our input, refined specifications carefully and artfully, and kept their facets of the job moving with real respect for all the other trades involved — demolition, plumbing and electrical, preparation of walls, floor refinishing, measuring and installation of countertops (from Fox Marble, San Francisco), installation of sink fixtures (new sink, faucet set, garbage disposer), and major appliances (new refrigerator, dishwasher), and painting. The Berkeley Mills installers are intelligent, imaginative, skillful, meticulous, masterful — they plan carefully, manage the details, handle their work like sculptors, know exactly what to do. The quality of Berkeley Mills materials and workmanship is superb; and the finished kitchen, with its clean modern lines, turned out to be an extraordinary fit, even considering the traditional look of the rest of the house. Berkeley Mills is known to be at the high end of providers. But in truth, the Berkeley Mills bid was only about 15% above that of the next highest professional cabinet shop (whose design/build specifications and installation processes did not, in my estimation, come close); so, for the sake of confidence, lasting quality and beauty, the long view, the additional expense was well worth the deeper reach into our pockets. In all, the cost of the Berkeley Mills part of the job was approximately 60% of the total expense noted below.

Berkeley Mills turned our empty great room into a fantastic place for family to gather. Gene and his team created a custom entertainment center and dining table for us. Gene listened to how we would like to use the room and quickly designed a solution that fit our needs (e.g. covering the TV when not in use, shelves for little treasures, lots of storage). We are delighted -- not only are the pieces beautiful, but also highly functional. Thank you!

Berkeley Mills designed, constructed and installed cabinetry and a built-in table for our kitchen and did design and cabinetry for three baths. Our 1950s house is in the upper Rockridge area of Oakland. For all four projects, we received great personal attention, highest quality design services and products, and help making choices for accessories, counters, appliances, etc. We were sensitively coached to help us find the right woods and cabinet pulls to fit our house and to fit our own tastes. Berkeley Mills carries a range of absolutely beautiful woods and wood combinations and has exceptionally skilled craftsmen and installers. We appreciated the opportunity to preview and approve cabinets before installation in the Berkeley Mills shop. All timelines and budgets were met without any problem. Berkeley Mills designed and installed a beautiful front door with side light windows for our home. The professionalism and pride in the quality of work was evident throughout the process. The design that was created was a result of home visit and consultation and complemented home furnishings, the custom door reflected an excellent level of craftsmanship, and the work of the installation team was meticulous! The new door has enhanced the warmth and welcoming feel of our home.

We have a Berkeley Mills kitchen, bathroom, front door, closet doors, built-in shelf/display cabinet, dining room table, benches, and coffee table. We are in awe of their beauty. The use the most interesting parts of the best woods available. The people are great to work with, generous with their time and ideas. We’ve especially enjoyed working with Gene and Luong on our projects.

Beautiful design for small kitchen. Finest quality woodworking. Some hitches in timeliness in completing last few steps in process, but overall recommend Berkeley Mills highly.
