Distinctive Millworks

I highly recommend Timothy of Distinctive Millworks based on our extremely positive experience and results. Timothy built and installed beautiful custom baby gates for the stairs in our foyer. He has a keen attention to detail and took great care to ensure the gates matched the surrounding space (including stair spindles, paint colors, etc.). Install was quick and very tidy - no mess. Now that the gates have been in and hand-tested (by a rambunctious toddler) for over a year, I am pleased to say that they are functional and highly durable. So, not only do they look great, but they work great too. Timothy is a pleasure to work with: he is professional, responsive, and efficient. He is also very much a perfectionist, and that really shows in the end result: the look and durability of the gates truly exceeded our expectations. Thank you, Timothy and Distictive Millworks!

Timothy created wainscoting in my client's dining room and also installed millwork around 3 windows that had no trim. Not only was the finished product excellent workmanship, but he was extremely professional and responsive through the whole process! Tim did a wonderful job for us! He built out a mudroom bench and improved an attic access door for us. He was able to bring our vision to life perfectly and completed the job quickly and wonderfully. We will highly recommend him moving forward.

We negotiated with Timothy for several months before we started a kitchen update. He was very patient and courteous. His prices were more than reasonable. He took out a wall and part of our cabinets. He had to adapt some of the remaining cabinets. He put in a new pantry door. He had electricians that added hardwired smoke detectors, undercounter lights, strip lighting over the range, and reworked some of our switches and receptacles. His drywall guy was diligent and did a good job. Timothy's work was excellent and fast. He did as much as he could to keep us from being inconvenienced. I highly recommend him. We will use him again if we have other projects.

I had the whole kitchen redone, with cabinets from scratch. Timothy was very easy to work with. Flexible and good design ideas and solutions. It takes a little longer, but it's all quality work. Never saw them take short-cuts, everything was "done right". I'm very happy with the craftsmanship. They also built custom bathroom vanities for me, using sinks that I provided. Cabinets were designed around the space and the existing sinks. All high quality work and looking sharp. I would certainly use them again.

Timothy at Distinctive Millworks did a kitchen remodel for us this spring. The remodel involved door and drawer front replacement on existing cabinets, new hardware, cabinet painting, quartz countertops, and custom built-in cabinets and enclosure for the washer/dryer. We couldn't be more pleased. He was very pleasant, knowledgeable and easy to work with. We would highly recommend him to even our BEST friends!

Installed base molding, case molding, crown molding and stair rail banister for basement finishing project. Timothy was prompt and performed all work for quoted amount. He is professional and takes pride in his work. My only issue was that he did not clean up the saw dust generated each day. I am sure he would have done so if asked. I would highly recommend Distinctive Millworks.

Distinctive Millworks performed a gorgeous update of our kitchen. They upgraded the mechanisms of all drawers and cabinet doors, painted them, repaired and replaced trim, and coordinated well with our other contractors. The work was completed in a timely fashion and we really appreciated their calm and respectful approach as well as their cleanliness. We were really happy with them!

I hired Distinctive Millworks to fabricate custom cabinets for a kitchen (shown on their Houzz page as Chapel Hill kitchen). I was specific in many ways about what I wanted, and Timothy was great in working with those design constraints and also in helping to fill in the missing details. I had a specific time frame for this project, and they made it happen as promised. I could not be happier with the quality custom cabinetry I received, or in the process of working with Timothy.

To say we are impressed with Tim's work would be an understatement of epic proportions! We had Tim come in after our house was built to provide further custom trim work to it. He helped take it from being a beautiful home to being a true showpiece that is absolutely stunning. In fact, we were so pleased with how it turned out that we abandoned some of our plans to install wallpaper inside some of the wall frames he did for us just so that the wallpaper wouldn't detract from the trim itself. Not only did Tim help guide us in what would look best for a given area, but he helped us with material selection to avoid having to tear out the crown, base cap, and/or base boards, which we almost had to do in order to make the post-construction trim look like it had been installed at the same time as the rest. The particularly impressive part was that, even though he constructed the trim frames from raw materials, it was done with such expert craftsmanship that the corners aligned seamlessly--to the point they didn't need any caulking. It was not only amazing to see that level of skill, but it also really helped make the end product that much better. Tim worked within our very tight timeline, provided a competitive quote, and delivered excellent work. You can't ask for much more than that!

Timothy from Distinctive Millworks has skill for his age. When my wife and I decided to have a built-in bookcase installed, Timothy came to our house, listened to what we wanted, gave his advice, showed us some pictures of previous work for comparison, gave us a price, and a week later brought to life the exact vision of what we were expecting. He matched the existing trim and baseboards perfectly. Timothy had a mentor that he quoted as saying, "Caulk is a bad excuse for lousy carpentry." He has brought this motto into this business where he strives to make every piece of wood look good and fit properly.
