Carrell Rogers

Danial Carrell was the original founder of a cleaning business in 1893 located on Market St. in downtown Louisville. In 1894 Danial Carrell partnered with Mr. Rogers and so began Carrell Rogers. In 1920 Carrell Rogers moved to Clay St. and added a window shade business as well as cleaning wall paper, which was in high demand from 1920 till 1945 due to coal furnaces. In 1923, Mr. Rogers departed for Florida and Danial Carrell ventured into the carpet business. At this time carpet came in 27 inch pieces and had to be sewn together to create carpet and area rugs. In 1941, Carrell Rogers unionized and from 1941 thru 1945 began making saddle pads for the horses the Army used in WWI and WWII. Then, in 1960 they began a whole new adventure, as Danial Carrell turned Carrell Rogers into a flooring store that offered all flooring surfaces. They successfully continued this model and eventually sold the store to Lee Hammer in 1986 and they continued offering all flooring surfaces and window coverings. Next, in 1998, the current store owners, Ken and Nancy Martin purchased the oldest flooring store in Louisville and almost immediately opened a new store location at its current residence 109 S. Hurstbourne Pkwy. That same year Ken and Nancy also purchased Sharp Flooring Galleries located at 4214 N. Preston in Shepherdsville. Finally, in 2006, both locations became members of Carpet One the largest flooring organization in North America.
