Rock Tops Surfaces

Rock Tops, located in Sandy UT, installed countertops in my house this past week. They broke 1/3 of the material, installed things upside down, and there is all sorts of damage. They're pushing back and saying this is normal. Do not EVER do business with these people.

We just finished building a custom home and Rock Tops was by far the worst company we have ever worked with. We have 8 bathrooms and they templated the sinks in 7 bathrooms wrong even though we had every sink & faucet sitting in the bathrooms when they came to template. Then, in the master bath, when they drilled holes for the faucet, they created fissures in the quartzite that were too big to be covered by the faucet. They proposed cutting that piece out and doing a Frankenstein fix. We politely declined that. Instead of us demanding that they replace every countertop in every bathroom, we were willing to accommodate them and find new sinks to fit the wrong holes they cut. Instead of them finding the correct sinks, they had our builder and designer go find them at an additional cost to us. THEN THEY TRIED TO MAKE US PAY FOR THE NEW SINKS!!! Their install crew let the sealant drip down the fronts of our brand new cabinets and onto our new hardwood floors. We spent hours cleaning it up. We purchased two slabs of quartzite for our island. Rock Tops cracked one during install and said it was normal for that to happen because it’s natural stone. The crack is 30” long and they attempted to fix it by applying an epoxy onto a white quartzite which did nothing but highlight the crack. The island is the centerpiece of our home and is such a disappointment. They installed a piece of quartzite completely unlevel in our kitchen. They acknowledged it was wrong initially, but when they realized we had already installed tile backsplash and they would have to fix that too, they blamed it on the cabinet company. We tried for months to get them to come look at the issues. They would never respond. They filed a false lien (the only lien we've ever had) then said they would fix some things, but only if we signed a settlement that we wouldn’t share our experience. In the end we decided we didn’t want this company to touch one more thing in our home. With their track record we feared they would leave it worse off and create more problems. We felt it was much more important to share what we went through so others wouldn't have to. Their game is to have you sign a release before they will do any work. This release basically gives them an out if ANYTHING goes wrong. So please take our word for it, and the words of many others who have written similar reviews, and save yourself a lot of stress, disappointment & costly delays. DO NOT USE ROCK TOPS!

The final result looks nice. The counters are high quality, the install team was friendly, skilled, and efficient. However, there were several troubling events that led to extreme frustration and unexpected expenses to the tune of thousands of dollars. The initial bidding process was simple and we agreed on a design and price that worked for us. We signed contracts and were getting excited for our new counters. Shortly after, we received a call from the salesperson, Connie, telling us that she mistakingly quoted us for the mitered edge stone, but not the extra labor. If we wanted the design we already signed contracts for, it would now cost us another $1100. She "brought down" the price to only $600, but the entire thing felt like a massive scam. We should have backed out then, but we had already ripped out our old backsplash and didn't want to live with torn up walls for any longer than necessary. Then, days after templating, we were contacted again and notified that our peninsula was too long, and would need to shorten by two inches. This is valuable counter space and changing our layout once again was a frustrating development. Finally, the worst incident was during install. Our undermounted sink was broken during the removal of the old countertop. We were assured many, many times that we could use this sink and would not need to buy a new one. The templater was at our house and measured this sink, and had ample time to inspect it. The install team did not seem to be aware that we intended to keep the sink. They informed me that undermounted sinks break "all the time" because of the glue used to hold them on. After my initial call to Connie, she assured me that the company would replace my sink. Several hours later, she called me back to tell me that the company would not replace the sink after all. I was on my own to buy a $600 sink that the new counters were cut specifically for. I believe the company had ample time and opportunity to inspect my sink, and if they believed it was at risk of breaking, some sort of planning could have been done. We could easily have had a spare sink on hand. This is a major misstep that they have refused to take responsibility for. We were without a kitchen sink for several days, forced to order one express online, and then told we would be "put on the schedule" for an install the following week. We ended up finding another contractor to just come install it that day. All in all a very unprofessional and unaccommodating experience. We have filed a complaint with the BBB that has gone unanswered. If you are looking for new counters, I am sure you could find them from a better company than Rock Tops.

Not only did they chip my countertops in a couple of spots, they tried to 'fix' them. Sent out 4-5 people to try to cover up their mistake. When they finally put a new top in (because I refused to pay until they did) they scratched up my cabinets. I have not gotten a phone call or text back from the sales guy. I would not recommend these guys or use them again. They are not careful and do not care about their customers

Rock Tops was a wonderful experience for us. I called with questions and had return calls if the educated person was not available at that time. They came to the house to recheck the installation questions and concerns and when they left things were taken care of. Professional personnel and a real pleasure working with the workers and store staff.

We love our granite! We get "Oh wow! ", comments all the time. Some people are surprised that it is granite since it is unique in color. Amanda was so great to work with and the results are fantastic. People want to take pictures of the countertops.

They installed new kitchen cabinets in our home. They did a good job. Their shop is very clean. Low pressure

I have worked with Rock Tops several times and every time I am impressed with their professionalism, quality and customer service. I loved how fast they are able to complete the projects and with such a beautiful result. I will continue to work with them and I recommend them every time I am asked. Rock Tops worked very quickly in getting the job done. From start to finish they worked quick and efficient. I will need another counter top and will definitely go back to them. Price was way better than what I was quoted at other places. Very affordable.

I searched for countertops for months. I found just what I wanted for a great price at Rock Tops. I picked it out on Friday and they installed it on Monday! I was amazed! It’s beautiful! The manager, Kelly, was professional, considerate and went out of his way to assist me in everything! I highly recommend this company!!!

We were pricing out different options in our area and the second I walked into Rock Tops, I knew we'd be working with them no matter the price. Luckily, they offer competitive prices (cheaper than other local quotes and Home Depot/Lowes) and their service cannot be beat. I worked with Amanda who stayed after hours to review my plan and dealt with multiple visits from me to look at the stone "just one more time." Install was quick, easy, and the end result is beautiful!
