Growing up in a family that has been well known for flooring and countertop services since 1945, Mike Gunn started his own profession in the field in 1983 with Carolina Granite and Stone in Gastonia, North Carolina. Around 1987, he opened his first retail store, selling and installing carpet, vinyl, counter tops, and tile. During the mid-1990s, Mike found himself learning more about not only the flooring and countertop business, but also remodeling, electrical, and plumbing work as well. In 2004, Mike received countless phone calls from customers interested in granite countertops. After studying the increasingly popular material, learned the ins and outs of granite and opened his own fabrication facility only a year later. Today, Mike is the owner and operator of Carolina Granite and Stone. Within our 12,000-square-foot fabrication facility, we custom cut granite to your specifications. The preparation of the granite is done through a process in which we cut, shape, and polish your chosen slab. After you pick out your slab and the exact part you would like to use for your countertop (some granite slabs may contain multiple designs), we use our state-of-the-art machinery to fabricate it. We begin by cutting the granite with our bridge saw. Then we shape it with our radial-arm profiling machines and diamond-bit routers, and finally, we polish the slab with the finest diamond pads for the most luxurious shine you can get. Using our air-material handling equipment to move the granite around, we then load it up, bring it out to your home and install the granite countertops.
