Creative Fences & Decks

We regret hiring Creative Decks to build an awning for our deck in November 2021. The process was smooth to get a quote, schedule the work, and complete the awning. We loved our new awning! But as soon as it started raining we noticed leaks in several places along the length where it connects to the siding. One of the leaks was funneling water down our kitchen window too fast for the drainage holes to manage and the kitchen window started leaking into the interior. I sent photos and videos of the leaks and Michael, our project manager, responded that he would send someone to fix them. I had to follow up multiple times to ask when someone would be able to come. Michael finally sent help 5 months later on March 25, 2022. The person who came to fix the leaks explained that the wrong washers had been used on our awning in the first place. He replaced all of the washers with the correct washers. I appreciated him being forthright about the mixup, but it didn't help with my concerns about the quality of the overall work. Because most of the leaks don't occur near the bolts, but rather along the header, I asked what could be causing those. And in particular, if they could be leaking behind the header. He reassured me the leaks couldn't be going into the siding and did a heavy line of caulking along the header. I was assured that the caulking, though ugly and visible through the clear roof panels, would stop the leaks. It didn't. I was told to let Michael know if we still had leaks so they could come back and try again. When it rained next there were new leaks in different places along the header. I sent more photos and videos and got no response. It's now November 2022. It's been nearly a year since the awning was built and 7 months since the first attempted fix. I've sent many messages and calls with photos and videos of the leaks. The company has been unresponsive. In addition to reaching out to Michael repeatedly, I've attempted to reach anyone else at Creative Fences & Decks. Their voicemail boxes are all full and there's no email address listed on their website. Now that the rain has started again, we're back to playing "where are the leaks today?". Currently, a shoe cabinet is being filled with water by the hour. Not only are the leaks unacceptable, but we're concerned about structural damage. Creative Decks removed a piece of siding in order to mount the header board. They assured us the flashing would keep water from intruding behind the awning header. I don't trust their assurance and now need to hire someone to inspect their work. We are disappointed. This company was recommended to us by a friend. Initially, our experience was good. And due to the general staffing challenges and inflation of recent years, we were patient and trusted them to deliver on the work as contracted. They failed to do so.

The team at Creative Fences and Decks did an amazing job when they built our outdoor living space! They were easy to work with and their craftsmanship was top notch! I would recommend them to anyone!

I do not recommend them. Hired this company to build a 1000 sq ft Ipe deck, planters, benches and a pergola. Total $86000. They did not get a permit for this job nor did he tell me to get a permit. I found out later, the deck did need a permit. Currently, multiple posts and beams that support the deck are sitting in the dirt. The planters should have been built outside of the deck (not sitting on the deck edges). The planters should have had their own support system and free drainage to the ground. This did not happen. This added a significant cost to the deck (not included in $86000) as I had to fabricate watertight metal boxes so the deck would not be ruined. I asked the owner to make a gate in one portion of the deck skirt (under the pergola) to have access to irrigation and deck inspection. Did not happen. I asked the owner not to place planter caps until metal planter liners/inserts are installed. Did not happen either. The deck was supposed to be 1000sq ft. I have only 850 sq and he will not adjust the price. The posts for the pergola are sitting in the dirt, not on concrete footings. Do not recommend this company.

Creative fencing and decks did an incredible job on my fence! They did it in clear cedar which is normally the most expensive cedar wood you can buy but managed to be very competitive vs other contractors. Super easy to work with and professional. They got the job done exactly the length they said it would take and left my house in better shape than when they started. Also a plus is they have a guy who makes custom steel powder coated supports that go into the concrete and stick out of the ground for the posts to attach to. Other competitors did not offer the same. This allows me to fix or replace sections without having to rip out future posts. I will be using them for future projects and referring them to friends and family.

Our project included removing extensive decking and fencing and replacing them with a custom designed backyard. It also included adding a cover tied directly into our existing roof and replacement of a large window with a sliding door. It all turned out beautifully with positive reviews from all who have seen it. I especially appreciated their design ideas and their flexibility in working around subcontractors. All in all, it was a positive experience for us.

This was a multi- family fence project. From start to finish everyone from Creative Fence was very professional, straight forward, and delivered exactly as expected. We had 4 families needing to agree on both a contractor as well as a style of fence. After obtaining several bids, and looking at their finished products, going with Creative Fence was an easy choice. The contract spelled out everything in detail. The workmanship was meticulous and first class, and everyone was polite as well as being good communicators. They kept all of us informed on the timeline and answered all of our questions. They used first grade cedar (without any knots) and placed the fence posts every 6 feet instead of 8 feet. The fence is quite lovely and sturdy.

My neighbors and I hired Creative Fences & Decks to build us a new fence and we could not have been happier with the results. If you just want an average, quickie type fence - these guys are not for you, as they only do high end stuff (clear cedar, posts every 6' vs. every 8', etc). The process starts with their sales person (in our case it was Luca) that comes out to review your project / needs. He pays a lot of attention to detail and will do a good job of explaining to you the different options you would have and how what they do is different. The guys that actually build the fence (in our case it was mostly Lomo) take the time to verify and ask any questions they have about details that may not have been thought about before. I personally LOVE that, because it really drives home that they do things right and want to customize anything they can to your needs. They were not the cheapest bid we received, but surprisingly (based on the quality of work they do) they were not the most expensive bid we received either. If you are looking for a quality fence, these guys are the best in the Portland area!

We were very fortunate to have found Creative.. We're re-doing our entire house and it hasn't been a pleasant experience dealing with contractors. By far, out of all the contractors we've worked with, Creative Fences and Decks were the best! Victor and Constantine were so focused on attention to detail, they didn't leave until everything was absolutely perfect. Not only did they finish the project on time but everyday that they worked, they kept the job site (our home) clean and organized. No garbage here! I'm always surprised how many contractors leave their messes behind. I wish more people took pride in their craft like these guys. They're amazing. I wouldn't consider hiring anyone else. The new deck exceeded our expectations and wow's our guests every time=)

Our new fence is beautiful. It was a pleasure working with the installation person and contact people. Our new arbor is really beautiful. They were very busy so the job took a bit longer than expected. We love the fence and design so it was worth the wait.
