Decks by Schmillen LLC

We recently had front and rear decks replaced by Decks by Schmillen and we are really happy with our new decks. Due to their reputation for excellence and popularity, we had to ‘get in line’ to wait while they completed multiple projects ahead of us. And the wait was well worth it! We were always amazed by the skill, knowledge, and professionalism of each member of the construction team. (Three folks did the bulk of the construction and they completed the work in 9 days.) Doug Schmillen (the ‘boss’) worked with us extensively in advance, both in person and by phone to work out every detail of what we wanted. He was always helpful, giving us the pros and cons of each decision we made, from the overall design to picking construction materials and stains. We definitely recommend these folks if there is a new deck in your future.

Just had Decks by Schmillen replace both of our decks. The work crew was friendly and efficient. They kept the site neat, came and went when they said they would, and did a great job! We would definitely recommend them to friends and neighbors needing deck work.

Decks by Doug Schmillen is some of the best work I've seen since moving here from Chicago 11 years ago. Doug fixed our deck when we first moved in. He did such a good job, we used him again last month. The first job was about $2500.00 and the second job was $3600.00 and I consider it money well spent. You will get exceptional results from an outstanding TEAM.

We actually had two phases done by Doug, Keith and their crew including the first phase done in 2017. They are so knowledgeable in construction (much more than a "deck company"), capable and conscientious in completing projects and dependable to complete in a timely manner and with follow up. I highly recommend them.

For years I have used Decks by Schmillen to preserve an unusual red wood deck from the 70's. I call them every Spring and they cleana nd stain the deck. They have also repaired some issues underneath the deck. Gerat to work with.

We recently had our old deck torn away and replaced with a fabulous new one by Decks by Schmillen. We LOVE our new deck! And we loved working with Decks by Schmillen. I highly recommend them. (They're already doing a deck for a neighbor!) The old deck was standard, boring, builder-grade and it was showing wear. We had four different deck contractors come out and give us bids for a new deck. They ranged from big fancy outdoor living space companies down to an individual craftsman. They all had expertise and good ideas, but best blend was Doug Schmillen with Decks by Schmillen. Doug was certainly knowledgeable, professional, experienced, and talented. I appreciated his true sense of craftsmanship and lack of heavy salesmanship. He guided us through the design and decision-making process, offering lots of technical insight and good advice. The crew, run by Doug's son Keith, did excellent work. They were professional, detail-oriented and efficient. Their process was impressive to watch. I have two very curious kids who enjoyed watching the transformation. We are very pleased with the end results, both in design and in quality.

Excellent craftmanship and wonderful employees. Worked clean, quick and professional. Owner was on site and available daily to ensure quality and customer satisfaction. Son of owner was on jobsite daily as project manager. Built a completed 2nd floor composite deck with cover and stairs to lower level patio.

They built a large deck and pergola for us which we have enjoyed immensely. Then we had a terrible hailstorm and our beautiful deck was all but destroyed. Doug and his wife went to bat for us with our insurance company beyond what he had to do and now we look forward to a new deck again in Spring. They are professional and care about their customer.
