Modern-Shed

Shawn and his team helped us install a Modern Shed for our home office. They did an awesome quality job and we’ve happy with their final outcome. They all work very well as a team and left our place clean after the job was complete. I would recommend that you think you everything you may need (for example, do you need rodent protection, gutter system, step to get in/ out of the shed etc.) to avoid any unnecessary financial surprises. We worked out minor issues but at the day we love where we landed with this project. I recommend you considering hiring Shawn’s company for your modern shed project.

Our experience with the Modern Shed team was extraordinary, from the initial design to completion. It's been a few weeks since we've had our 10x10 office shed built in our backyard. We have been enjoying the finished shed as a much needed home office space. Trevor worked with us during the design phase and was very professional. He provided multiple rendered drawings that helped us visualize the shed. He also connected us with the builder and electrician. The construction did take longer than originally anticipated, mainly because of the rain in California pushing the project into the holidays. There were also other hiccups like a window and panel that arrived damaged, but the builder who worked with us -- Shawn -- took care of it. We were very happy with the quality of construction. Shawn paid attention to the details and did amazing work! He was friendly and great at communicating. He also worked on a couple of extras like adding slatted wood panels on one of the walls and installing a rodent barrier. He also brought in Jose, who did a beautiful job installing the drywall and painting the shed. The electrician, Ed, was also efficient and friendly. Ed hooked us up with power and set up the Mini split (air conditioner/heating unit). Much needed this winter. We wanted an ethernet cable routed from the house to the shed and Ed was able to set that up as well. He was meticulous in his work. Our past experience with other contractors hasn't always been the best, but Shawn and Ed self-managed and were easy to work with. Shawn and team also cleaned up really well after themselves and only left behind our beautiful shed. We love it! Would definitely recommend working with Modern Shed.

Our experience with Modern-Shed was great start to finish. Jeff worked with us on design and was thoughtful, patient, and generous with his time, the overall feeling was that he truly wanted us to have a good product that was right for us. The delivery was on time, i was surprised and happy. The Contractor Dave and his team (Nate, Gunnar and Dan) were awesome to work with. They spent a week on Vashon where we live, collaborating and genuinely engaging us the whole time. We made a last minute decision to change the location due to complications and we all worked together and found the perfect spot. Lastly, the shed is beautiful and feels like a quality product. i would do it again for sure if there was ever a need. I am grateful for the entire process, it was easy and enjoyable. Thank you all.

We loved working with Modern Shed to design a little space for our parent to have a get away in our back yard. The product is high quality. We are very happy with it.

I looked at lots of options for sheds and settled on Modern-Shed. I am delighted with the outcome and have had many compliments on our shed. I would give high marks to the installation team. They were amazing and I had someone from Modern-Shed help me every step of the way. I am not an experienced contractor and so there were a few bumps at times, but all in all, the value and product are simply outstanding. And the build was quick! Once the team was onsite, my shed was up in record time. I may build another Modern-Shed in the future! Really!

Jeff worked with us to draw up the plan we wanted. Once the plan was done,, the unit was ordered and Walt showed up with the unit and started construction. He was very knowledgeable regarding the construction of the Modern Shed products and offered some good advice. It all went along smoothly. They anticipated supply chain issues for windows so they weee ordered early in the process. The windows arrived when needed and did not hold up construction. We love our 250 sq.ft. Unit . It was designed to take advantage of our water and Mountain View. Our guests love staying in it.

Buyer beware, do a lot of due diligence and get everything in writing. We chose modern shed over another competitor because of the design flexibility. We needed specific footprint dimensions (odd numbers) and door config that the other solution couldn’t deliver. I was also impressed with the sales person’s forthcoming “we tell you exactly what is included and what isn’t” in the discussion and proposal. Thats about where the great relationship ended. -Delivery was very late, the windows we switched to in order to have quick delivery became back ordered as soon as contract was signed -Covid delayed delivery - and then the cost of shipping which I thought was committed to went up -contractor (a disaster) double booked us and tried to install 2 projects on opposite sides of the SoCal valley at the same time in the same period -the shipping truck didn’t tie down materials and lost a huge beam on the 405 (nobody hurt by a miracle) -the contractor didn’t write anything down, and things that were discussed as “covered” (see note above) ended up not being in scope and we needed to pay extra -recommended contractors crew chain smoked on property (and in unit) the whole time -the contractor disappeared without communicating to us (because he had Covid and was working on the project) -electrical contractor was not installed as discussed and certain things weren’t even connected properly (found out wires weren’t even grounded - thank goodness I paid for another electrician to come out after to fix and finish the job) -we specified Hardie board siding - never asked board width and it doesn’t match our home -window trim details were never discussed or asked, contractor just did what he wanted -exterior paint ended up being extra -the project took MONTHS to finish - started Dec ‘21 finished Feb ‘22 — I’m not kidding, and I was quoted 10 days. -ended up costing us approx $10,000 more than expected with extra professionals like HVAC and electricians, material costs, deck construction errors and materials costs not communicated Granted; looks great and we love the space but MAN that took a couple years off from the stress and aggravation. Don’t use a contractor named Mike.

When it became clear that I wasn't going to be able to move into the house I was building in time, I explored several options to have a place to stay until it was ready. Though Modern Shed was about 3x as expensive as similar options, I was impressed with the reviews and their ability to deliver an integrated solution. Their disclaimers and payment schedule gave me pause - but I was reassured when the salesperson was willing to commit to a date. However, they had a loophole in their back pocket. While the basic structure was in place by that date - it wasn't finished or ready for use. And, the final install was not just a few days late - it was a month late. They maintain a separation between the shed company that creates the initial structure and the installers, so the parts may be delivered by a particular date, but you have no assurance on the final install date. It was a stressful disaster for me. If you just need a backyard office and you aren't on a schedule, this shouldn't be an issue. However, if you are looking for something that will meet a specific need within a specific timeframe - find another solution. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through the stress and expense that I have over the past few months. I wish I had never heard of Modern-Shed.

After much research, I chose Modern Shed to build my art studio on Vashon Island WA. The design team listened to my needs and desires; they created a beautiful space that greets me each day as I work. My shed is sited among some large trees, and it's the first thing visitors see as they come to our property. The insulation and window placement has proved to be very comfortable through all seasons. I'm very happy with my new studio.
