We worked with Anne Flynn Designs on our home in Escondido and choosing her was one of the best decisions we made. From the start she really listened to everything we had to say and made us feel heard throughout the entire process. She paid close attention to even the smallest details and made sure every part of the design reflected what we wanted. She has a great eye for layout finishes and overall flow and somehow made everything come together perfectly. The final result looks amazing and truly feels like the house of our dreams. Annie Flynn is undeniably a talented interior designer with exceptional taste in materials, finishes, layout, and overall aesthetic vision. The creative concepts she developed were beautiful and aligned well with our style — that aspect of her work was genuinely strong. However, the execution, project management, and business practices were profoundly disappointing and, in the end, unacceptable. Trade coordination was consistently poor: repeated vendor no-shows, measurement/installation errors (including incorrect plumbing for the freestanding tub and drawers on a $20,000+ custom cabinet order that would not close properly), unnecessary rework, and scheduling failures that created delays and added costs. Time spent correcting these issues — many clearly stemming from trade or vendor mistakes — was billed to us at $150/hour as “project management,” resulting in what appeared to be significant over billing for non-client-directed corrective work. When we disputed specific charges (supported by emails, on-site video recordings, Ring camera timestamps showing discrepancies in billed hours, and clear documentation of trade errors), the response was defensive and inflexible rather than collaborative or accountable. The project was left incomplete for a period due to disagreements over necessary touch-ups and repairs for damage caused during installation; we were told these were “out of scope” and could incur extra charges, despite arising from work under her oversight. Most of the punch list items were completed by me or by someone I was forced to hire outside the engagement. Most concerning was the resolution of the final invoice. We had significant issues with her grossly overstated charges, many of which related to time spent addressing mismanagement of trades rather than actual design services. We agreed to pay the full amount she demanded, only after she threatened to withhold delivery of several high-value items we had already paid for in advance through her firm. These items were effectively held hostage until we acquiesced to her payment demand, or we faced the prospect of indefinite further delays. This felt like coercive strong-arming rather than professional business conduct. The items have now finally been delivered, but only after we were compelled to pay what she insisted on — not what we believed was fair based on the documented issues. Shady and coercive business practices ultimately overshadowed her talented design skills. Beautiful aesthetics do not excuse poor accountability, over billing for vendor errors, defensive communication, or using prepaid deliverables as leverage in a billing dispute. This was an expensive, stressful, and ultimately disillusioning experience. Talent alone is not enough when professionalism, transparency, and fair dealing fall so short.

I can’t say enough good things about Anne Flynn Designs. From the very beginning, they made us feel heard and understood. The final result was beyond what we imagined — stylish, functional, and totally us. Their attention to detail and thoughtful approach really set them apart. We loved the whole experience!
