About Us

Bankston May Associates (BMA) is an award winning, full service interior design firm providing luxury residential and commercial interior design services with a client centered philosophy. Principal designer, Darla Bankston May and her design staff understand and enjoy the challenge of creating an environment suitable to each client’s lifestyle while also incorporating the client’s individual tastes. Bankston May Associates works with a variety of aesthetics: classic, modern, rustic and traditional. As opposed to having a trademark “look”, BMA designs spaces that reflect a client’s personality and taste, while complementing their lifestyle. Since 1999, Darla and her staff have completed a diverse array of projects in the United States and abroad. BMA is full-service firm with a global reach. With more than 20 years of experience in the interior design industry, Darla Bankston May provides her clients with extensive knowledge in all phases of design, from architectural planning and construction to interior concepts and furnishings. She is a licensed Interior Designer with the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners and a Professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). Since forming BMA over 15 years ago, Darla and her team have amassed a project list in United States and abroad. Darla graduated from Texas State University with a B.A. in Interior Design and a Minor in Architecture.

Darla and her team are completely professional. They work with you and help you achieve your vision instead of pushing their own vision on you. They are full of great ideas when you are stuck and they have wonderful subcontractors. It has been fun and fulfilling to see our projects come to fruition. I first saw Bankston May Associates' work when I toured the design show house, Villa De Luxe, where everyone was raving about the basement. I had no idea that evening that I would soon meet the designer's parents to assist with their real estate needs. I started "following" Darla's work on houzz.com and had the privilege of meeting her while I was working with her family. I have since referred many real estate clients who need professional design consultation in setting up their new homes, and I look forward to the opportunity to engage Darla when I have a personal design project.

Darla Bankston-May is a talented designer/decorator who is well organized and a pleasure to work with. She helped us from start to finish on a new-build home and we are extremely pleased with the outcome. She started working on our house when it was in early stages and remained on the project throughout. Darla worked closely with the builder and was involved in all of the building decisions such as stone choices, paint colors, design of bathroom and kitchen, etc. She also designed the furniture layout for our entire home and selected and sourced furniture, fabrics and art. Darla and her associates always had a "can do" attitude and really focused on delivering what we wanted. Her work and our home has been recognized by being featured in Luxe Magazine and also will be in two books. We definitely would use Darla again and highly recommend her.

My husband and I just finished a beautiful contemporary remodel of our home outside of Houston. We engaged Bankston May Associates (Darla) after interviewing her and observing her enthusiasm for our vision. We have been extremely happy working with Darla and her excellent staff. Darla paid attention to both of our styles and expectations, and when my husband and I didn't agree on a furnishing or placement, Darla would find a way to make us both happy with the end result. Darla has been a real pleasure to work with, she keeps the project within budget and timeline. She is a perfectionist and will not deliver a product that is less than perfect. We are absolutely pleased with our finished project.
