Brownsmith Restoration

Brownsmith Restoration is a full service general contractor and period design company. We specialize in historically accurate additions and remodeling. We bring passion, experience and authenticity to every project. Our firm was founded by Michael Smith and James Brown. Their journey began in the small town of Red Wing, MN with the restoration of a folk Victorian farmhouse built in the 1880s. By 2007, Brownsmith Restoration was awarded by the Historical Preservation Society of Red Wing for a complete historical remodel of a 1920’s Craftsman home. Shortly afterward, they took their design, contractor, and restoration skills to Minneapolis to focus on a growing customer base in the historical, unique neighborhoods of the Twin Cities area. From kitchen remodels and home additions to unique restaurant build outs, Michael and James strive to make our communities an even better place to live and work. We couldn’t do this alone. Our small team of employees are a valuable part of our process and their skills attribute to our success.
