Environs Residential

We love the new and very much improved Master suite! We have worked with Environs on past re-modeling projects and would recommend them to others. Of course if future projects planned we would engage the Environs team again

We finally got the motivation to make it happen: • Add a spacious family/entertainment room (440 sq ft), a gallery (50 sq ft), and a 3rd full bathroom; • Add a partial basement & storm shelter (110 sq ft); • Renovate 2 full bathrooms; • Replace the front window on the house with French doors to an added-on front patio; • Modify the existing back deck into a courtyard that serves as a transition around the new additions; But we weren’t sure how to make it real. We asked a few folks and were told we couldn’t do some of the renovations without compromising the foundation of the existing house. We were shown some unimaginative options. We were wondering if we should just invest in a new and bigger house. Then we met Dawn and Terry @ Environs Residential. They listened carefully while we described what we were looking for, took our wish list, conceptualized the design…and they brought it life; they took the vision and ran. Dawn’s design sense is contemporary and visionary – she takes in what is there (keeps true to the existing architecture – in our case, a 70s Cedar Ranch) and develops it into something better than you imagined in the first place. She listens, but she also provides solid advice. Her counterpart, Terry, who brings it to life through construction, sees potential problems before they can develop, provides constant feedback on what is happening (cost, scope & schedule), is a master craftsman in his own right, and truly takes pride in the product delivered. Given the compliments throughout the project, his response was always, “That’s what we do.” We stayed in the house during the whole renovation – 4.5 months (Nov ’11 – Apr ’12), and Dawn and Terry worked that into design/build equation; sequencing the work just right so that we (family of 4 and 3 dogs) were able to stay put. Even the county inspectors remarked as to the quality of the design and construction. The renovations completely “flow” with the original house, the transitions from old to new are seamless, and the results are truly amazing. We wanted to redo our kitchen but had no idea where to start or what could be done. Just wanted something more modern and upgraded. Environs is owned by a married couple - Dawn is the designer and Terry is the general contractor/project manager. They complement each other well - since they expect to be on the hook for what they design. Working with Dawn was easy as I am not very good with choices but I do make decisions quickly - so after she understood our style, she'd bring a few pre-selected samples from the vendors, make her recommendation and we would take some time to decide. I didn't have to spend hours browsing stores or Internet which I didn't want to do. She also expanded the scope to include the areas adjacent to our kitchen and made great recommendation to increase the value of the house and make the area more spacious and livable. The execution itself was much easier than I thought. With 2 small boys, a dog, nanny, me working from home (and in 2nd trimester with baby #3) I was concerned about the construction of such a frequently used area. The project was on schedule and finished exactly on the date we were given, all the workers were on time and very polite and respectful of our house. They coordinated the disposal of our old appliances and kitchen with the buyers I found on craigslist and in general took care of every single detail. They shielded our living area from the construction area and tried to keep the key things working as long as possible (sink, fridge) so we are comfortable. I had a calendar that was regularly updated to see what was coming and which days will be noisy/smelly, etc. This was our first experience with a bigger project and I was very pleased - and so were my friends/neighbors who couldn't believe they were on time ! This is OUR Amazing kitchen! Dawn and Terry were wonderful to work with! Dawn has a great sense of style. She carefully and thoughtfully guided us every step of the way to make OUR dream a reality. It started with the design plans, which were drawn over a number of months using ideas from magazines and meetings discussing what our needs and wants for the new space were. We wanted a functional space for our family of 5 but needed to work within the existing footprint. Our main goal was to open up the space between the living room and kitchen to give it a more open concept feel. We needed more functional storage in the kitchen, better lighting, and a workable mud room out of the garage entry hall. This we got! When I felt overwhelmed with the number of choices, she was able to guide me in my decisions. However, I always felt that the end decision was mine. She helped me take my ideas and narrow them down always keeping budgetary considerations in mind. I loved getting to be so hands on in the decisions, picking the tile, granite, lighting, etc. made me feel like the end result was exactly what I wanted. Terry is also terrific to work with! He is exceptionally knowledgable about the construction aspect. The two of them are great at anticipating problems and finding workable solutions. Terry has assembled a competent, courteous, and professional team of subs that get the job done on time and within the budget. When issues arose, Terry was able to address them and get them handled with minimal headaches to us (who lived in the house with 3 young children during the reno!) Terry took great care in keeping the job site clean, and managing the sub-contractors to keep the renovation moving as close to schedule as possible. I am so happy that we chose Environs Residential as our design/build team! They provide outstanding customer service, award winning design and solid functional construction. Environs Residential did repair/replacement on our guest bathroom. The finishes and design are perfect. The vanity comes from design seen on houzz as well as the use of pendant lighting over vanity. We love the 3 tile selections, paint color, wood stain. All elements have come together to make a special bathroom that fits our mid-century ranch house. This is the second bath renovation and third project that Environs has done for us and we couldn't be more pleased with the work.
