My husband and I were introduced to James Stanley through our real estate agent. The agent knew that the apartment we purchased needed a lot of cosmetic work (i.e. removing floor to ceiling wall paper, removing wall-to-wall carpeting, replacing cabinetry, etc.), and knew that James could accomplish these tasks quickly. We are fortunate that we chose James! As renovation work began there were a dozen other issues that popped up that the previous owner had ignored and that the agent did not know about (i.e. rusted electrical wires, asbestos, incomplete flooring). James's team was able to fix these issues too. Most importantly, James was not afraid of tackling the problems AND was patient in explaining all of the repair work to us. Pros of working with JSNY: +One-stop shop: JSNY provides design, architecture, contracting, plumbing, electrical, and logistic support all in one company. You do not need to search for your own specialists. +Less stress: JSNY is highly experienced working with NYC bureaucracies (i.e the Dept of Buildings), Building Superintendents, and Co-op Boards. You do not need to manage all the moving parts of the renovation yourself. +Communication: the team is responsive to emails. James is approachable and friendly. +Honesty: James was very upfront and transparent about potential problems that could arise during the renovation process (i.e. where the DOB or Co-op board might move slowly or not approve a design) and how his team would respond. Our renovation work ended up taking much longer than James's original estimate. However, this was during COVID and a lot of supply chains and deliveries were delayed. (Everyone renovating during COVID has this problem!) James was very clear on what delays were due to shipping and supplies and was quick to find replacements. There is one area I would suggest keeping in mind in working with a contractor and/or if you are new to renovations: be sure to check on the details and be sure to follow up frequently with the project manager/contractor to ensure the sub-contractors followed instructions. For example, a few outlets and switches didn't work and the electrician needed to return to fix them The original kitchen faucet we selected didn't work and needed to be replaced. These are the typical minor concerns that will arise during any renovation, but be sure to speak up and follow up.

JSD was hired to complete a cosmetic remodel in multiple phases of our SOHO loft. James and team were exceptionally talented at translating our ideas and concepts into the working design of our new home. James worked within our budget and presented a variety of options for us to choose from so we could balance lower and higher caliber options where we felt necessary - cabinet pulls, light fixtures, window treatment, countertops, etc). Throughout phase one of our renovation the JSD team was always timely and responsive. The team that worked on our project directly was trustworthy, polite and responsible. We had such a good experience that we had JSD come back to work on phase two of our apartment. We highly recommend JSD and look forward to working with James and his team again in the future for additional projects!
