Janel is an amazing designer. She took a so-so boring floor plan and flipped it on its' head. We always wanted a kitchen island but thought our kitchen was too small. She made it happen without being cramped at all. From start to finish we were impressed with Janel. She listened to our ideas and gave us other ideas to consider as well. Ideas we would never have thought of, such as counter to ceiling designer tile as a statement, different complimentary paint colors on a couple of walls, contrasting countertop on the island compared to the sink countertop, a raised "floating" eating area, and moving the main dining area completely. One of the best things is how she was able to make a compartmentalized floor plan that felt a bit cramped into an open concept plan with way more light than we thought possible, all without adding windows or changing the exterior wall footprint. Then there is the functionality. When cooking, her design allowed for everything to be within easy reach. It's the most efficient work triangle we've ever experienced, and with the openness we can be part of the party while cooking. We hosted a large crowd for Thanksgiving dinner, and the functionality and flow of traffic she designed was amazing. Everything about this remodel was beyond our expectations. Janel has a keen eye for detail and knows what works well together. When the project was "complete" she walked through and identified some things she wanted changed just a bit. Things we really would not have noticed, but the designer in her did notice. She made those slight changes, and of course she was right. It did make a difference. Things like a woodgrain she wasn't completely happy with, or an extra piece of moulding she wanted. If you want a design and end product that will blow your mind for years to come, do yourself a favor and hire Janel Campbell. She's amazing and we have the remodel of our dreams because of her. Janel Campbell did a fantastic job in helping us remodel our fireplace. She listened carefully to what we wanted, did the research and then gave us a perfect amount of options to choose from. She made sure all aspects of the work was executed to a high standard. She is professional, has excellent taste, always follows through, and has a fun positive personality. We worked with Janel Campbell and the Neil Kelly Company on two projects - a renovation of our kitchen, and the same for our bathrooms. Her design expertise, knowledge of trends and materials, timeliness and ability to suggest alternatives all made for very successful projects and a good working relationship with a minimum of stress. . We just completed a 5 month remodel on a nearly whole house project on our home that included kitchen, dining room, family room and bathroom, bar and service area, entry, master bedroom and bath. Janel Campbell served as lead designer and consultant on the project. Professionally, Janel is smart, talented, creative and energetic. She has an eye for detail and an ear for listening. She paid close attention to the details of our 60 year old home, our wishes for our ever-growing family and the unique challenges of melding new design into existing design. During the planning and design process, her expertise was invaluable when selecting materials and finishes. Always mindful of time and with a command of the vendors and their products/services, she was able to make this part of the project begin in the most thoughtful and professional manner. Most impressive is Janel's understanding of how a house is built and meant to function technically. Never once did her design or planning conflict with a single subcontractor and/or his scope of work. On a more personal note, Janel is a wife and a mother, who cooks and has a garden. She understands what makes a house a home. She understand the importance of getting this stuff right. She just understood me. I feel incredibly lucky that our paths have crossed and so very thankful she was part of the team that took on this project for us. And speaking of team, I can't say enough about the project manager, Dan Moore and Jason Hall, who worked as the master carpenter. Both of these men worked hard to stay on task and time, while having the highest regard for our property and home at all times. They assured that each contractor act as guests while in our home and that the job finish in a timely manner. To say we are satisfied customers would be an understatement. Our decision to hire Neil Kelly was the best decision and one that will allow us to enjoy our forever home for many years. Thank you!!!

We worked with Janel to do a complete redesign / renovation of our craftsman/modern farmhouse kitchen and mudroom/laundry room. We also did a number of other projects with her and her team, including new hardwood floors (2nd floor), new carpeting (basement and kids' bedrooms) and interior painting (all rooms). In all aspects of the job, Janel was highly professional, responsive to our needs and design preferences, attentive to detail and in general a delight to work with. Janel is a thorough and proactive communicator, which is vital on any complex project - this was especially important to us as we were living in another city while the design portion and first half of the construction phase were completed. Janel is well connected in her industry and helped us select the best available tradespeople for the various elements of our project. She is also very knowledgeable about the marketplace of products and made a number of excellent recommendations now in use in our home. Janel has an extensive design background and a strong sense of what's right and wrong in terms of the tried-and-true rules of design and usability. She is also adept at the technical aspects of design - and was easily able to help us navigate some of the more technical elements of the project. She is also willing to say, "I don't know, let me talk to some people who do and I'll get back to you with a more complete/reliable answer" - something we valued very much. We are very happy with the results of our project. We would wholeheartedly recommend Janel to anyone considering a home remodel or renovation project in the Lake Oswego and surrounding Portland area.

When we met Janel Campbell at a Neil Kelly workshop, we knew she would be the perfect designer for us. She has extensive knowledge of design AND construction, and a complete understanding of all the appliances and fixtures that go into a kitchen. We liked the fact that she is a cook herself, and really practical. Janel was patient, friendly and generous with her time throughout the design process. She listened carefully to our goals and concerns, and answered all our questions. She introduced us to a wide range of materials and guided us to the best choices. We particularly like the black Dekton for the countertops, the smart divide sink, the motion-activated faucet, and the pull-out for garbage and recycling in the island. The kitchen is now not only beautiful, but also efficient: easy for more than one busy cook to move around in, and easy to clean and maintain. We can't believe how much more storage we have without adding on one single inch of space! Each part blends beautifully with every other part: the new wood floors, the white cabinets, the deep drawers, the gorgeous granite on the island, the black counters and handmade tile backsplash. And there is still plenty of room for family and friends to congregate. We will not hesitate to hire Janel for our next remodeling project. The whole Neil Kelly team provided top-quality work and kept to the schedule.

We have just completed our second project with Neil Kelly and Janel Campbell as our designer/consultant. This project replaced and redesigned an existing deck and patio space. Janel brought her technical building knowledge, her knowledge of materials, and her eye for color, scale and harmony to help us combine all of the elements into a project that we look forward to enjoying for years. Having worked with Janel previously on a master suite remodel we knew that she listened carefully to determine how best to meet our goals for the new space. She was able to help us through the process of choosing the best materials and colors from the overwhelming number of options available. Janel’s ability to communicate and her warm personality helped us through the planning phase which is vital to the success of any project. We knew that we could ask questions and share concerns with Janel and the other Neil Kelly professionals at any time and they would respond promptly. We are extremely pleased with the results.

Janel did a fantastic job desigining and helping me make selections for two remodeled, accessible bathrooms. She understands my overall design concept and researched appropriate alternative products/finishes for me to choose from -- saving me time, trouble, and costly mistakes. The project is moving forward quickly and steadily!

We contacted Neil Kelly for an estimate to remodel our kitchen and family room. Janel was assigned as the consultant/designer and we couldn't be happier with her services and final outcome. Janel was friendly, professional, and took the time to make sure she understood what features were most important to us. She understood our personal style so when it came time to make our numerous selctions (cabinets, flooring, backsplash, paint color, appliances, fixtures, etc.) it was a relatively quick process as she had narrowed down the seemingly endless possiblities for us. In addition, she brought up options we had never considered and absolutley love (a hands free faucet, built-in fireplace, spice rack in the drawer, etc.) I highly recommend Janel and would work with her again.

It was an absolute pleasure working with Janel and the whole Neil Kelly team on our kitchen remodel. Janel made the process much easier than if we attempted this on our own. She was very good about listening to what we wanted/liked and narrowed down selections to what fit that mold. This really helped us not feel overwhelmed as there are millions of tile, floor, plumbing fixtures, etc. to choose from. Janel also pays very close attention to detail and treated our home as if it was her own. It’s all of those little things that most people don’t think about, but she thinks of everything. She made sure all of the different materials worked well together to give us the warm feeling we were looking for in the kitchen. I was also very impressed with her overall knowledge of all things kitchen (e.g. electrical, plumbing). She is a jack of all trades. We find ourselves standing in the kitchen just staring and admiring how nice everything looks. I would not hesitate to work with Janel again.

Janel, as I sit at our island doing paperwork, I am thinking of you and how wonderful our kitchen is! My husband and I enjoy the space and how we move around in it. And I love that we have mostly drawers and few cupboards. Thank you for your intuitive, wonderful design work in making it all come together for us! Our kitchen is the heart of our home!

This is our first remodeling experience and although we had been warned by our friends and relatives to be prepared for the worst, it is has been a fun and rewarding experience so far and expect that this will continue to be the case. I don’t know this for a fact since we did not get other quotes, but I expect Neil Kelly pricing is higher than others but we had heard positive reviews from people that I do work with that have credibility and my wife that has her own business had heard the same from her clients. We are both busy people and do not have time to be dealing personally with issues that might come up so we were prepared to pay a reasonable price for high expectations with little intervention on our own. Having said that, the proof of the pudding is in empirical observations during the design and construction of the project and I can say unequivocally that we are very pleased with the results. This does not mean that everything went perfectly all of the time which it did not because of the many variables involved regarding timing, subcontractor workmanship or whatever the issue might have been. I have always thought that when everything goes perfectly, then you never know how good your contractor was since they were not tested. It is only when things go wrong that you find out how good the contractor is and Neil Kelly has been first rate in that regard and I could see that they are not only interested in making sure the homeowners expectations are met but they also have their high standards to meet as well. I am convinced there are many details and workmanship tasks that are transparent to us as we are primarily interested in visuals and functionality and not too concerned about the process although as a designer in high tech I have some interest in the process. From the preceding paragraphs you can see that we are pleased with the Neil Kelly staff but for us it all began with Janel Campbell and her presentation she did at the Lake Oswego showroom. We had never met her and were not aware of her many awards and accomplishment’s until after the fact. We picked her because she seemed like a good fit for us based on her presentation and insight she provided regarding her design philosophy. She has always been available for us and addressed any concerns we had and we always felt better after meeting and discussing any concerns we had. In a word, she was reassuring. She has a great blend of an old school design philosophy and a current knowledge of high tech products and materials that are available and that will work with the design she is working on and satisfies the homeowner’s needs. I am an engineer and work with many bright, focused people and she is one of the most detailed persons I have had the pleasure of working with. She is a hands on person beginning with initial designs and concepts, moving forward to brochures and handouts, to sample artifacts, and then in some instances such as exterior paint at our house, going from color samples to actual paint on our siding for a test comparison for us to evaluate color and trim. It is evident that she has a tremendous understanding of construction methods and she creates designs that are buildable and although our kitchen and dining room are in different locations than our living room and bedrooms, her vision was to coordinate as much as possible the personality or look of our existing rooms. With a probable addition of a new living room window of the same brand and style as the one in the addition the linkage will be complete. As mentioned above, we are currently remodeling our kitchen, dining room and also added an engineering workshop behind our garage and If we were to do another remodel effort, whether it was bathroom, bedroom, or family room, Janel would be our one and only designer that we would consider. She has been our Rock!
